Default 1983 Mercury LN7 "Barn Find"

Okay, it's my car, but it has all the other qualities of a quasi barn find. While
I am back home visiting mom for mother's day I decided to snap some picture
of the 1983 Mercury LN7 resting in the barn behind the house. It was my first
brand new car. It was last registered in 1987. I drove this car from Jersey to
Montana, and from New York to Georgia, and all states in between. I'd say at
least 20 states in all. The body is rust free and it has never been wrecked. It
has the original paint. The interior is clean. Everything is original. It even still
has the original TRX tires. Someday I'll drag it out and restore it. Maybe hang
a small turbo on it just for fun. The last Picture is mom making fun of me, she
remembers what a car nut I was even back then.

    Enjoy

Let me know if you decide you want to sell that one!

Also, I have to ask you, since you bought the car new. What compelled you to buy the LN7? Why did you get the LN7 instead of the EXP? What made you want one of these in the first place? I am just curious, you know.

At the time I owned a hot rod 67 Mustang GT that I had resto-modded and a beastly
1977 F250 highboy with 15x38 Ground Hawg tires and a 429 Cobra Jet engine (I was
actually one of the first people to "discover" that the 385 big block was an easy swap
for the stock 351m). What I didn't have was a good reliable economical car. I saw an
EXP in a magazine and that was what I wanted. It just looked cool. But when I went
to look for one I couldn't find one. My local dealer located this 1983 Mercury LN7 with
the 1.6 HO GS package and had shipped to the dealship without even asking me! One
day I went by to see if he had located me an EXP yet and he said no, but, come out
back I have something to show you. And there it was on the car cariier. I thought it
was so unique. It was just so kinky. I had to own it.

Yes it has a bubble hatch. The 83 EXP had a flat window like a Mustang.

I saw this at a recent local car show. It looked nice out there. It isn't the Mercury version but rare enough to warrant the pictures taken.

I worked with a guy that had one for his DD. Pretty neato little car. Almost bought an EXP 5-speed from my neighbor once.

I believe that white one belongs to an acquaintance of mine (Drifter). If that's the one, it looks even better in person.

Nice... I've not seen a EXP or LN7 in about 25 years in my area.

I remember when these were out in my area. They were ridiculed as the bullfrog car. Until this thread came up, I haven't seen one in a long time.

That is awesome! I was talking with a buddy about finding a EXP/LN7 to drive in the summer. I had a 83 LN7 in the early 90's it was blue with tan interior, I bought it with a bad engine, replaced the engine, added 87 Escort GT wheels it was a fun, sharp little car! keep us posted on this project!

That is really cool. I always liked the EXP's and LN7's. Thought about buying one way back when. Yours looks like it would clean up nice. Would be a great conversation piece at a car show. (I might walk right past a chromed up muscle car at a show in order to inspect the well-worn '61 Falcon parked next to it.)

There is an early EXP on my way to work. I have never had the chance to look at it closely, but from the road it looks fairly solid (though it appears the owner has taken some rattle cans of flat black to it-- maybe just to counter surface rust).

Hmmm. Every time I hear something like that, I wonder if they'll sell it.
