Thread: Twin Turbo

    Default Twin Turbo

Anyone know of a good, relatively cheap twin turbo kit that would fit my 1979 mustang coupe?? I'm in the "getting ideas" phase right now, but I'll be building a 331 and I want a twin - not single - turbo kit.

I found the HP one for like $8,000 and that's more than I care to spend. I only want 400 - 500 horsepower. I know I can do it with motor alone, or Nitrous or Supercharger, or Single turbo, but I want to do a twin turbo.

Turbo People used to have one, but they seem to have disappeared (that website is not the same one I remember). Turbonetics doesn't seem to have anything for a 79 mustang anymore.

    All I'm finding is 2005 + stuff.

    Anyone??
I push my fingers into my eyes......

Update - 2023 - Looking to buy 81 Mustang, 82/85/86 Mustang GT, and 79 - 86 Capri (No Sunroof). Not looking for all original/show cars or convertibles - I will be modifying. Would be nice if both were - Black Interior, PW, PL, AC, No - or very little rust. Motor/Trans/Axle not important. Options negotiable with price.

    Carb or EFI?

Most ready made kits are geared to EFI but you could modify them to work with a carb.

The least expensive twin kit is the Cartech kit, http://www.cartech.net/fordturbo.htm but it still isn't cheap at $5450.

I am going to be doing twins on mine but will build my own setup using a set of reversed shorty headers.

There are some ebay twin kits but they are not really "kits", they need a lot of fabrication to make them work.

Those are some of the ebay "kits" I was referring to, lots of fabrication needed to get them on and working plus they have no ECM or fuel system mods included.

I am looking at using the turbos from those kits but not the whole kit since they come with a lot of extra junk that is not really very usefull like fans and oil coolers, etcetera.

There is no cheap bolt-on twin turbo kit available.

If you want a bargain, I'd get a quality used setup on Corral or one of the other sites that
have a lot of hardcore boost members. I've seen complete used kits for under $3000. For
400-500 HP I'd rather do a Paxton Novi or Procharger blower setup. You will get so much
more torque with a blower at those modest boost levels.

Tons of low end torque with a pair of small fast spooling turbos. I'd match torque with any centrifugal supercharger.

It's a preference thing, dollar for dollar, I prefer superchargers. Turbos are good for peak HP though.
