Default Does this exist? Should we make one?

Many of us 4 eyed owners often have to cross to same road at some point. Dual Exhaust. I am about ready to venture into this realm. I have done some searching, and have found some good info, it is just all over the place.

What I am looking for is a tech guide. If we don't have one, I think we should try and throw one together!

    What do you guys think?

sounds good, and sticky it in this forum so people stop asking the same questions everyday about it because they are too lazy to do a search.

Ok. So here is what we are looking for.

    -List of additional parts needed

-Instructions for relocating brake\fuel lines (if needed)

    -Instructions for CFI cars

    -H\X pipes that will work

anything else you experts can think of....

The same people who are too lazy to search will most likely ignore stickys.

A kit for dual exhaust or something? You can get dual exhaust easy, it's not like a 79-81 tail light. As easy as a 4x6 headlight.

then we'll link them to the sticky and give them a one liner like "search is your friend."

My 86 was originally a 4 banger with single exhaust, i got these exhaust hangers from 5.0 resto and bolted them up to hang the mufflers and tailpipes . the holes were already there in the frame ( A quick peek under the car will verify if the holes are there on some of the older square lights ) . I never use the bracket that attatches to the crossmember. Any exhaust designed for 86 - 93 5.0 will work ( i have mac 1 3/4 shorties and flowmasters 3 inch exhaust ) i usually hang the exhaust and loosely bolt everything together. Then get a jack and a short board and place it under the H or X pipe and jack it up till it almost touches the floor of the car then make sure your mufflers are flat across the bottom and not cocked and your tail pipes are lined up and pointed straight and then tighten everything up. Then you can remove the jack . Doing it this way will prevent your exhaust from sagging down ( i can't stress how badly i hate when you can see the h or x pipe sagging under a car) . I swapped in an 8.8 but kept the original brake lines from the 7.5 , i just had to lightly modify the brake line bracket. Basically i ground down the part that mounts to the frame so that it fits inside the New muffler hanger. I was able to bolt it inside muffler hanger using an original hanger bolt and a new one ( the silver one in the pics )

hey 86_notch, can I ask u a question about your post above, should you jack up the h pipe with the h pipe still bolted tight to the headers? or should you loosen the collector bolts first? I always had this problem, of the h and mufflers sagging real bad.

loosen the collector bolts and the bolts that connect the h pipe to the flow tubes ( short pipes between the h pipe and mufflers ) then jack it up till it just touches the floorpan and tighten everything up , when you let the jack down it will drop just enough so that nothing touches

I didn't move the stock fuel lines. Since I was swapping in an 8.8, I also added the '87+ flexible brake line and mounted it on top of the axle on the floorboards. I reused the original '83 muffler hanger and bought one more for an '87+, #E6zz-5c263-a from Ford for ~$25.

I had an old set of tailpipes from my '88 LX 5.0 that I was going to use, but they sat outside since '95 and the section over the axle rusted out. I bought two Dynomax 2-1/4" tailpipes from Advance Auto for $75 and I will cut off the ends and replace them with the Ford polished stainless ends. I figure a muffler shop was going to cost me more than $75 to do that.
