Does any one have a pic of how the battery hold down works? I cant find any reproduction hold downs so im just wondering if the 86 type will work on my 82 or of if im limited to making something myself?

Which group number battery are you using?
Original is group 56 for both years so the should use a similar hold-down. It will be the type that clamps to the protrusion along the sides of the battery at the base.

"Group 56" battery widths have varied quite a bit since Ford made your 82. I went through 4 different brands before I found one that would work (same width as Motorcraft), many are simply remarked Group 55s. I can check the brand/source later if you need it, I may have posted the info in an old thread.
At least in the Northeast, all Motorcraft 56's in Ford's inventory are junk (too old/will not pass a load test even if charged).
