It's here in Philadelphia. Not worth the trip from Cali.

'82-'84 (and '85 CFI) 5.0L Capris and Mustang were H.O. but had neither roller blocks nor roller cams and lifters.

I think the 87-88 Cougar/Tbird 5.0 was a truck motor, which would comprise cast pistons,
a mild non HO roller cam, and E7 heads. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope. The block and heads were actually engineered originally for the '86 Thunderbird. They will have E6SE engineering numbers. The pistons were cast. The cam will have an '85 generic Ford engineering number and it was used for several other FLM model lines.

Good to know. I wasn't too far off with my guess.

You can put the HO upper intake and throttle body on it. I can't remember the size difference (mm) but it is considerable.
I believe the non HO throttle body was 50MM and HO was 60MM.

Wow, way to resurrect an old thread!

Yes, I passed on the car...

I think you made a wise decision, but I'm not a fan of the Cougar. I love the thunderbirds, but those small Cougar changes rub me the wrong way.
    Cheers!

I love the 89/97 Xr7. This is a cool car, it has good power from the SC 3.8, 5.0, 4.6 engines, rigid chassis, IRS, it handles and rides good, nice interiors, they still look pretty sleek (timeless?), and they're still fairly cheap!
