80's motorsport banner

Hi guys, i love the look of the 80's motorsport banners, unfortunately i guess their not available anymore, i was thinkin' of doing my own, i just need the correct font, i have searched the web for the font with no succes, also i checked a couple of resto sites with no luck, i would apreciate very much if anyone gives me any ideas where i could find the font or does anyone know if other resto sites have them. i searched e-bay but their is only one with gold letters, i was searching the forums and came across the exact one i want, its from mmigora's car. looks sweet!!!, since i'm trying to do a correct restoration for my 86 t-tops i want the 80's style banner.

my buddys got that on his 87 gt vert. a little faded from time out in the sun, but it looks cool.

Someone out there has to reproduce these. Maybe FMR will chime in and see if they can find us a source. I'd buy one if they could find one. Perhaps we could get http://www.graphic-express.com to reproduce them since they do pretty accurate and rarer reproduction decals such as the DOMINATOR GT's.

You should contact our site sponsor, Bald Guy Designs. It's run by a member of the site who is a long-time enthusiast.

You won't be able to find the Ford-specific font unless someone has taken the time to reproduce it, but with the proper tools, the banner can be duplicated.

I remember having one of those on my escort. You could buy them by the dozen at RS Strauss.

wow, that is cool! it looks sporty. if i had to pick one car that would look perfect with that banner it would be an 86 GT t-top. i dont know why, but it just seems right LOL

That does look really cool. I prefer the other (older) 'Motorsport' font though.

If I can chime in as I am a designer by trade, it's frequently not really one specific font, most of the logos used do have a typeface behind them but are often modified heavily to the designers taste.

I believe the Motorsport typeface above from the late 80s early 90s, the base typeface used was ATI Crillee. For Mike's (escogt) favorite Motorsport logo, that logo was based off Century Gothic thin.

There's a CD out there called Logos of the World, that may have one or both on them.

You should be able to take the picture to your Local "SIGN" shop and have the letters done. The FORD emblem is Copyrighted.

I had one just like that on my Capri... Ordered it direct from Ford Motorsports catalog back in the day.... It seems like I ordered my Ford Motorsports anti-sway bars at the same time.....

thanks for all the ideas guys, i think i'm gonna have to contact the site sponsor, also if i manage to find a good hi-res jpeg of a decal of the motorsport letters, maybe we can get it digitalized on Corel, thanks also to eeprete for helping us, i want to do a nice restoration like if the car was accesorized in the 80's, i want to give it a 1986 time freeze LOL,

maybe one day,,, i also was thinking on installing some rear window shades, not to long ago i saw some original factory ones in a local yard i am so pi**ed i didn't bought them, there still a lot of 80's foxes showing up in the local yards down here. Thanks again guys for the help i apreciate it

soon i will be documenting my paint project, i hope i can get te body prepped for summer, its gonna be my first oficial paint job :P

I want to freeze time with my '86 as well and a Motorsport banner would do the trick.

If I remember when I am at my dads this weekend, I'll see if I can find either an old catalog or even the old decal in the packaging (highly unlikely). I was going to put it on my black magic 9d car (white) but instead chose to hand cut the Capri RS logo and had put that on my windshield instead.

Yes I brought one from the guy on ebay for like 15$ I think it was. Problem is after 2 years it decided to peel off after a car wash pressure washer about 3 weeks ago.

Planned on getting another because they look too freaken cool on these cars.

there were two kinds, a cling on that would cling to the windshield on the inside (I believe those were tri-color blue ones. I had one on my 82 Capri yrs ago). The other kind is a decal where you peel away the backing and then apply it to the glass (clean of course), then peel off the top layer of paper.
