    Default headlights turn off

    oh my god!!! i was driving my 84 mustang last night when sudenly my headlights went off...and then again on... an off ...an on...
    tonight it was worst..they went like..blinking..and then off and on..
    can you guys help me..
    ?

    Sound like you need a new headlight switch. I had an 80 Bronco that did the same thing.

    Replace your headlight switch. The internal circuit breaker is bad.

    I had a '69 Econoline that did that.

    this is known issue with several Fords of the era. Happened to me on my 83 stang, and got me while on a date in a 92 t-bird.....she however was not convinced.

    After you replace the headlamp switch, upgrade the headlamp circuit with relays.

    My Capri had this same problem when I bought it. headlight fixed it
    1979 Mustang Ghia Coupe, 302 swapped

    I think most parts stores will have them. I found some non oem replacements on Oreilly's website just now. I think you will be ok w/ the replacement as long as you add the relays. Several writeups on this site about the relays, and they will help. May even make your lights a little brighter.

    yep,oreilly's has what you need.
    '83 glx vert with '82 gt frontend


    if you aren't trying to blow the horn with the signal lever and reaching for the key release button on your other vehicles,you're not driving the fox enough !

    Yeah. That part fails so often that it probably has been made in the BILLIONS and they will probably still sell them for the next 20 years. That right along with the ignition switches.

    did you get the head lights fixed. i got one out of a 86 if you havent got the switch replaced
    old set up e7 heads,victor 50 intake, bbk equal length, or bbk h-pipe, under drive crank pully, e-cam, mac cat back,3.73 gear, 76mm air meter, 75mm tb, bbk cai, 150 wet kit ..................11.56 @121, on motor 12.76 @ 105
    new motorput in on aug 8 2009 306 h prime rods, 236, 232 @ .50, 565,545 lift camotion cam. gt-40p heads, bbk equal length headers, bbk h-pipe, 75mm tb 76 mm air meter, under drive crank pully, mac cat back, 3.73 gear. 12.14 at 116 and 11.07 at 128 and need bar in the car

    Actually, if you want a new Motorcraft one, you may find it on the shelf at some Ford dealerships. I found one in a small town I was driving through in NC. Had one in stock. You never know.

    i foud it last night at autozone it was 15 bucks.. its been replaced..
    now tell me how can i make an upgrade to relays like some one here told me?

    The headlamp switch on most 78-86 Foxes is a bit of a pain to remove/replace. The key is getting your hand up onto the release button so that you can remove the switch knob/shaft:

    Foxes are a B to do any type of under dash work i must have crussed a million times before I was finished.

    Found mine at advanced auto for 12$ a fews years back havn't had a problem since with the headlights.
