Thread: battery ??

  1. #1

    Default battery ??

    my dad stopped at SAM'S club to get a battery for an '85 mustang, and it called for a 63 series battery, which SAM'S did not have. '87 and up called for a 58 series battery if i remember right--it had more cold cranking amps, and they actually had the battery.

    what batteries are you guys running in your cars?? i take it an '87-93 battery will not fit??

    thanks

    The listings are wrong. '85 takes a Group 56. Neither the Group 63 nor the
    Group 58 will fit the '85 battery tray.

    <edit>
    I'm using the Motorcraft BXT-56.
    BTW, Motorcraft is still running their $20 battery rebate deal. 84-month ends
    up costing $60. http://www.genuineservice.com/genuin...default?page=K

    I believe all 79-85 used a group 56 battery. The group 58 battery, which was used in the 86-93 cars, will not fit you car (different battery tray). Sears (DieHard), Walmart (Everlast), etc still make the correct group 56 battery.

    I have Sears Diehard Group 56 in my 86, but it had to be mounted "backwards" in order for the posts to align with the stock cables (positive inboard and to the front).

    Walmart still carries the Group 56 battery also if you need another option.
