    Default 1980 Cobra build up

Just thought I would give a little tease on my new build up.

I will be doing a resto mod on the 80' Cobra that I bought from JB awhile back. It is originally silver metallic with bittersweet cobra and stripes, and a vaquero interior, 4.2 auto with air car. Engine and tranny long gone, as are the seats and some of the interior. A few of the plastic interior parts are there, but were spray bombed black. I am trying to get the black off as we speak, and I am currently looking for any vaquero interior pieces (hint hint).

I scored a wrecked 2001 Mustang GT last weekend, so the drivetrain will be going into the 80'.

    Thats it for now.

That's gonna be a cool project. Swapping over the kmember and all of that as well? That will make one helluva driver.

K member will be swapped. Still learning about what I need to do with the brakes in front. Looks like stock fox arms with 94-95 spindles to keep the brakes. I'll try to keep this thread educational. I will be using as much of the 01' as possible.

blacksnake since ur swapping the kmember and all i would just use fox a arms and leave the rest late model unless u really need the extra 5/16 from the earlier spindle

You are doing what I was thinking about doing to my 81. I think I'm leaning towards a EFI 5.0 out of a 94/95. Keep us posted!

Quik update. Car is almost stripped and the mock up is about to begin. I intend on putting the 01 dash and console in the car. I will be making my own 93' Cobra R wheels from some GT tri-bars. I'm not sure what color I am going to paint it yet or the interior color.

No pics yet, well, none worth posting. I've had a chance to really look at the car, and the body is straight as an arrow. Also the car spent some time on the dragstrip. Found battery cables running to the rear and just noticed the MM subframe connectors. One less thing to buy. I have not decieded how I'm gonna strip the body, DA sander or have it media blasted.

The 80 is stripped. I have some pics I will post toward the end of the week. Getting ready to start taking parts off the 01GT and mocking them up on the 80. Dash will be first. Should be fun. Say tuned.

Interesting thread. I can't wait to see the final product! Looking at that empty, stripped engine bay, the possibilities are endless. Keep us posted!

I think the mod motor swap is cool.Id like to do a 5.4 4v navi motor and convert it using a sullivan intake and carb it.Ive seen a couple of new edge mustangs with this swap and running 10s with a shot of nitrous

2V motor is out of the 01' GT. Will be taking out the dash next. That should be fun.

Yes. Original dash was trashed, not to mention spray bombed black. Using the dash will make the wiring a no brainer.

Sweet! That's a lot of work but the semi-modern drivetrain and electronics will make the car much better than when it left the factory. Keep the updates coming!
