Junkyard Saleen?

Silver85 and I have been talking about this poor mid 80's Saleen that I spotted in a Alabama Salvage yard and it has got me interested in starting a thread that may catalog its rescue. If nothing else, maybe just find out what it really is.

Silver has made some initial contacts at the yard and I will be going out there tomorrow to gather some pics for him.

Well, There is a Salvage yard about 40 miles from me that is all Mustangs. Not a whole lot of 4 eyes but enough that I stop in from time to time to look around. One day when I was searching for a scoop and 3 piece spoiler, I spyed a oddly decaled mustang. It was a 4 eye and had the saleen on the top of the windshield. It was white with blue stripes on the bottom but was damaged in the rear and missing its wheels and front suspension. In looking at it, I felt that it was well past my abilities and funds to save and didnt think much of it until just the other day. I mentioned seeing it in another thread and have been chatting with silver85 about getting some pics. I am always in the market for a good sail panel or 2 so I will go out there tomorrow to look around and take some pics.

I have seen the car here is what I know about it. It was wrecked in the early 90's. It was hit in the rear qurarter panel. I am pretty sure it was issued a salvage title to be repaired. The front box was cut off through the strut towers to repair another car. I think it came from the Fort Payne area salvage rebuilder to begin with before it ended up where it is now. There is some interior maybe one seat no engine, trans or rear end. A friend of mine did check with the Saleen people and it is a White 86 Saleen. The vin numbers on the front are gone only the one on the dash is still there. It did have the 170 mph speedometer at one time.

any mustang in a yard here will be totally crapped out. I wouldn't know what to do if I ran across a saleen.

Well sorry to say this this will be short lived. I did go out there today and discovered that they had crushed over 100 cars and one of those cars was the 86 Saleen. I went to where I had last seen it and the entire row was gone. Well, I didnt want this to turn out this was and now I am kinda bummed...

I went by B&B today, they crushed all of the 79-86 cars, all they have is 87 up.
