    Default 86 5.0 alternator difference

    What is the difference from a 86 5.0 alt. to a 87-93 alt. ? And can the 87-93 be used on a 86 ? Any mods ?

I am not sure but I think the 86 still uses the bolt on connections and the 87-93 use plugs. If you do have the bolt on wires then you can wire the plugs for the newer alternator to work just fine. I did it to mine and have never had a problem.

Thanks, I'll see if I can't find an old harness somewhere and get the plugs from it.

If you are going to rewire anyway go for the 130 amp alternator. Better charging, and less electrical meltdown

Yeah - go with the 3G alt. Anyway - the 86 should be the same as the 87-93. They use the same internal regulator and the same plugs if I remember correctly....

i know PAperf. alt. has different wiring for converting 86 and 87-93 alts. so something may be different besides the hookups
