Ford/Mercury never really used the Rally Sport/Gran Sport thing..

More of a Chevy or Buick trademark really.

You won't Find "Rally Sport" in the Ford literature.

You will find: "Rally Suspension" or "Radial Sport" or "Radial Suspension". My guess it was a jab at the other guy's "Rally Sport".

Ghia is an Italian Auto design "term".

In the 80's people wanted a little Euro flair with their American cars.

Yep RS= Rally Sport or Rally Suspention, GS= Grand Sport, and Ghia is suposed to be more of a "luxury" model (hint of euro styling)

If you're going to assign meanings to the acronyms, please explain the L model.

Then in the Mustang world explain the GL and GLX models.

Ford may assign certain levels of trim, colors, options, appearences, etc. to each model but the model acronyms are meaningless.

Atleast, for the Capri 79-86 Fox body Capri's, the letters stood for:

    C ... Classic

    A ... American

    P ... Performance

    R ... Racing
