    Can't tell by the VIN if it's an RS or not, although with the interior badges it most likely is. The VIN indicates model year, assembly plant, bodystyle, engine, and production sequence number. That's it. For other options you have to get the codes from the Body/Buck Tag and the Vehicle Certification Label.

    9F14F677560

    9 = 1979 model year
    F = Dearborn, MI assembly plant (DAP)
    14 = base model (non-Ghia) three-door hatchback Capri
    F = 5.0L V8 engine
    677560 = 77,560th 1979 Capri assigned a VIN at DAP

    1979 Mustang Production 369,936

    Compare to

    1979 Capri Production - 110,144

    Hence the saying "all Capris are rare".

    Also supposedly only qabout 14,000 RS Capris were made in 1979. This does not include RS capris with engines OTHER than a v8....of which there were many as the RS could be had with any engine that year. So maybe you have a 1 of 7000 or 5000 car? just based on trim and engine?

    So what you have is something fairly special. It is NOT just a "run of the mill" car.

    Almost all capri's are special, and unique in one way or another over the mustang counter part. My dad stole the show a few months ago with his capri.

    If you blink at the end of the straight away you'll miss the twisties and what fun would that be!

    It's neither a Black Magic nor a Crimson Cat. If it were there would have been a "CAT" on the Body/Buck Tag. Plus, neither were available in '79.

    Black Magic = '81-mid '83
    Crimson Cat = late '83
