Default Assuming Ford/Mercury never followed through with this...

Scanning in the 86 DIY manual right now. Just noticed this little "note" on one of the pages. http://foureyedpride.com/fep_bild/v/...5/pg7.jpg.html

Look around the middle-left. It says:

NOTE - The Mustang SVO and Capri GS models feature a rear spoiler made of polycarbonate material which requires special care.
This is a December of 1985 (model year 1986) Service Guide.

Was there any promotional end-of-the Capri special that anyone knows of where they slapped McLaren or other some such spoilers on these cars or something? As there were so few 86 Capris out there even when new, I suppose it could be a possibility, but, this seems like yet another one of those things that made it into a manual for some reason but never saw the factory or showroom.

Interesting stuff to trip over here and there in these manuals. I'm sure I've managed to miss quite a bit in my frenzied scanning.

I've installed polycarbonate rollup beds for Lincoln Mark LT's. That stuff is like a clear, colored plastic, and is ultra-sensitive to scratching hence the "special care" line.

Very interesting. My speculation is that Mercury planned to put an SVO-type spoiler on the bubbleback, but then opted against it for reasons of expense and general lack of interest in the Capri at that point in time.

No polycarbonate wing on my 86 GS for sure.

That's the first time I've ever seen that in any brochures or literature. Seems like a lot of Ford publications were written, printed, and released even before Ford knew what they were going to do with the cars for that model year. Some of my books have the "Two Speed Accessory Drive" (TSAD) still listed as a component of the 5.0L HO engine. As we all know, that was never released.

I have never run accross any mention of a Capri like that in Ford lit....and you know I have a bunch of it.

The closest thing is the 83 asc Sports Package "for Dealers" folder. I wonder if they meant the Escort or EXP or something with a wing.

There is mention of special care of the rear spoilers on SVO's in my 1984 Mustang owner's manual
