Yep, I've talked to Daniel on the phone before. Just priced a little higher than I can pay right now. I'd love to own it though. I'd have to sell #77 to make it happen.

I'm third generation Texan, but I've got roots going back a few hundred years in Kentucky. There is a County there named after my family. Just think it would be cool to own a Kentucky car because of that. Their colors are awesome too.

Merle "Pop" Poppins retired from the CHP and is now deceased.

He is shown in many of the photo's with my 1st Mustang Police car when in EVOC service with the CHP and in other promotional CHP photo's.

In terms of the California Highway Patrol, just over 2,500 SSP Mustangs were purchased from 1982-1993, and less than 1,000 were four eyed SSP's. These cars continue to turn up. My 85 was purchased locally. There was (and probably still is) an 85 for sale in New Orleans (a documented/verified CHP Mustang too). It's funny to see how widely dispersed they have gotten over the years.

EDIT: Sam, congrats on your new 85 CHP #E408337.

A little off topic, but when I used to drive my 1979 Black "four eyed" Capri down the fast lane of California freeways in the early eighties, literally every car would pull over thinking I was a CHP Mustang. It sure was fun almost being a "Chip". People really feared the 5.0 Mustang cruiser back then.

    Thanks for the pictures.
