So I have one little grey dot under my name...does that mean that I am unknown to this forum or have no reputation? I thought I was friendly and helpful...but it says I am an unknown quantity at this time; does that mean I am worthless (C'mon Skye, do I have to bribe you with pictures of my cats to get good rep here!)?

LOL! It just means no one has decided to give you rep points yet. Everyone starts out with a grey dot. Even me.
The fun will be seeing if people are brave enough to try to turn my now green dot to red
Nice! If I was computer savvy enough to use that function (I still hit the keys with my club and grunt/point when things pop up on the screen), I would. So many things have been added that I am becoming lost in the techno-wizardry (P.S. My cats are goofy looking anyway; one has a huge head, the other a tiny head, and the third looks like a rabid dust mop!). Thanks Skye.
My dot's green now!!! Me likey!

Another rep question, according to the FAQ. "You can view the reputation that you have received in your User CP (User Control Panel) where it is displayed at the bottom of the User CP page." I do not see this at all in my CP. Is it not available anymore or am I just "special" and not allowed to have it?
Yes, it shows the latest rep section now. I assumed it would show that section all the time since it appeared I had some points already.
I had the same thing initially. I think you get point(s) for being a supporter.

Waaaa waaaa. Seriously though,I wasn't on the forum for about a year until recently. When I seen we were doing this I looked over at mine and nothing. I was like man how do you get those. I want some . So went post crazy . My coworker was laughing cause for a good 2 weeks I couldn't get no love. Lol . Now that have some . I hardly look over there. I guess its just like any other cred, any cred is better than no cred at all.

So technicaly we could sign up with another account and give ourselves positive points... ....unless we have multiple personalities and would give ourselve negitive points depending on our mood.
