gears. Still you may not win. Those camaros with 6 speeds were awsome in my book.

That is true. If you can - race him from a roll-off. About 10 or 15 mph (depending on gears). From a dead heat - he will probably kill you with factory little 15" rims and street tires. You will rather burn them or bog. You will stand a better chance from a roll....

What intake and heads you running? LT1's were not all that impressive.

Gears like everyone said. 3.73's should do you good. You could do the famous junkyard gt-40 head swap. Theres info all over this site and everywhere on what to look for. They can be had off an older 5.0 explorer, and rebuilt fairly cheap. With a little tuning and some help in the traction department, you should be able to pull on that camaro. I'de like to see it happen. lol He's pushin about 275hp and 320ft lbs of torque. He's mainly got you beaten in hp. But with some mods that should be taken care of. If i'm not mistaken he's a bit heavier then you too.

So far I have to agree with gears. Being yours is an 85, the 7.5" rear isn't the strongest unit out there and unless you got really lucky and the person who had the car before you upgraded; you are on borrowed time. I have a 7.5" under my V6 car that has the trac loc and 3.45:1 gears out of my 84 GTTurbo in it (I went 8.8" and 4.10s in the 84) and that was a world of difference. Gears are your friend in the quest to beat Mr.Camaro...but I would start looking for a good 8.8" rear if you are going to get serious with this car.

Assuming that the camaro is stock and he is decent at driving, should the car turn in 14.10 to 14.55 quarter mile times? So what is the easiest way to get an 85 gt into the 13.50 range? Gt-40 heads, a decent intake, and the rest of your mods should put you in 93 cobra range. Road and track clocked a 93 at 14.5 in the quarter. Now add in the 8.8 with 3.73's and good tires, you might stand a chance. Other than that save up for some AFR heads or twisted wedges.....
If you blink at the end of the straight away you'll miss the twisties and what fun would that be!

how mechanically inclined are you? no matter how fast you are, there's always somebody faster...what is your budget? i can recommend a few things for a few HP here and there, but the most benefit will come from getting that carb dialed in, gears, better heads(i would stay away from AFR, twisted wedge, and any other aluminum head unless you want to plunk down $1,000+ for 60HP..) is the camaro kid a smart ass? if so thats a good enough reason to beat him, but do it at the track.. street racing loses it's spark real quick when you get pulled over for it

Agreed. I didn't know how u had the carb dialed but tuning it can make a good difference. And definatelly hit him up at the track. It's safe, and there will be no question in who won.

yeah im pretty mechanicly inclined i have been working on motors in my dads motorsports shop since i was like 9 the car came with a v-6 so i dont no anything about the rear end its got a h-pipe and it seems pretty low geared and it dynoed around 310 horses i might be able to be the camaro right now i just wanted to make sure it wasnt that close that way he cant say a bunch of **** about me winning cause he screwed up how much hp can i get with heads

310rwhp!?!?!? If so, just gear it, and you'll eat him alive. Unless your 7.5 explodes! lol Upgrade that, get a nice 8.8(not hard to find) throw in some 3.73's, get some nice tires, and hold on! hahaha like I said, he has 275 CRANK hp, wich puts him at about 230rwhp. This + his relatively heavy camaro, isn't alot. You got him. Just know that you have the fastest car at school, and if he say's anything, point him to the nearest strip.

Agreed, 310hp is not possible with out some really good heads or more cubes. Congrats!!!

Maybe beaten in HP but he has weight too a lot more than the 85.

Depending on the heads you have upgrade.

3.73 or better gears and a set of 235-60-15 BFG drag radials. Heat them up and hold on

The 7.5 is stronger than you give it credit for. A local guy runs a ranger 7.5 in his vega and the car runs low 11's on slicks pulling the front tires. It'll also pull the tires on the street with DOT tires.

Vega with a automatic or stick? most Vegas weighed in at 2500lbs(dont take much to snatch the wheels off the ground).................7.5 rear behind the vega will last longer then it behind a 3300lb mustang.

yeah i have 17 in. cobras with some funny chineese named tires but how much can you find a rear end for oh and its got a short throw shifter in it

but my rear end doesnt pause up[no idea how to spell that lol] anymore unless i power brake it ,when i first got it i could just get going off easy in 1st and floor it then when the 4 barrels opened it would get comepletly sideways through second and then a little in 3rd now it just gets a little crooked in 2nd could the rear end like slowy wear down or something like with the trac-loc

oh and any idea about how i could get a liitle better gas milage[without losing the carb] ive heard that gears help but dont really know right now i get like 15 around town putting around and prob around 20 on highway and then probally around nothing if im hard on it lol

oh and i have something funny to say when i got my car it didnt have heat air or a radio and i finally put a radio in it and i was driving around last night and somehow my main power wire got grounded to the antenna wire and my wire caught on fire and filled my car with that stupid burning rubber smell[in hindsight i guess i should of used butt connectors instead of elecrtical tape]

I agree with the people that say gears and go from a roll. I raced my friends 2000 SS SLP with my 85 (pullies, shorty headers, aluminum fly wheel, 3:73 gears in an 8.8 and idk what else the previous owner did) but we went and did a second gear pull and i had him by alittle bit threw 2nd, threw third we were about even but when i went for 4th he had 1-2 cars on me. in the 1/8th (thats if your taking it to the track like i would recommend) if you can get traction it will be close and you can actually get it (with gears) (dad was within half a 10th of the 96-97 Z28 he was racing in the 83 and didn't even have it dialed in right at the time).
