I recall a C&D article with a early Capri prototype that mentioned the "Mustang SS" before Ford went with GT but this is the first I've seen.

It may be just me, but I don't think Ford would be that tacky. Besides, the SS emblem looks like it came from a Chevelle.

I know this topic was covered in the past, but IIRC this very car was discussed here before also.
83 GT Turbo
It was discussed but unfortunately it was in the FYI section which gets purged.
Been for sale for awhile now, and was priced ALOT higher the other few times.
I think it was deterimed that due to the production date of the car there is no way that it could have been one of the early ones badged as an SS.

Yeah, the vin on that car is VERY high for it to be a possible "SS" car.
The original thread I think the SS was mentioned in a spring (1981) Capri article.
Ford has a part listing for the SS badges for the Mustang.
The SS cars were rebadged very early on and some dealers supposedly did it on the lot....but again this car is far too late for that.

The '82 Mustang SS was a legitimate model. However, the few that actually made it to dealer lots were re-badged as GTs. The '82 GTs that you find with a "GT" sticker on the hatchback liftgate were probably ones that were originally badged as "SS". The SS badge was originally from an '81 Escort application, and was listed in Ford parts as a badge for an '82 Mustang. I bought the last NOS one a couple years ago.
As stated above, this particular GT was far too late in the production run to have been originally badged as an SS. The seller has been trying to sell this car for a few years now, and has been shown to be a scammer in regards to this car actually and originally being badged as an SS.
In other words, it ain't a real one.

I am going to move this to General BS so we don't lose the thread again.
I have attached the pics for reference incase it comes up again too.
I stand corrected on my statement then. It still looks to be a Chevy SS badge glued on. I have not seen the Ford SS badge so I don't have anything to go off of. It would be cool to get a pic of the badge for reference.

Yep, it looks exactly like the SS badge that I used to see on an Escort or two back in the old days.

So does anyone have any pics of the real cars? Maybe a Ford booklet or some kind of advertisement?
As far as I can remember from previous discussions, the 'SS' name plate didn't get that far. There were pre-production mentions in articles, and even a little model car ( 82 "GT" style) that made it out with 'SS' badges where the 5.0 badge normally goes which I've actually seen in person.
If there's Ford lit out there supporting the SS, it's probably quite rare. But, bits and pieces, like Mick's badge, have shown up from time to time.
I remember seeing a pic from the last discussion. I think it was a scan from Car & Driver testing the pre-production '82 GT which showed a barely-visible SS on the dash.
Just for fun, here is an ad for the Escort SS.
And a nice commercial:

I've actually been in contact with the guy on the car, well aware (thanks to Jeff) about the discrepancies. I've tentatively arranged to see it this Sunday, time provided. If anything it will give a good indication of what kind of condition the GT is in.
Yeah, the Escort SS made it further than the Mustang.
This is one of those interesting oddities of the Fox era.
eeprete: If you can get more/better pics of the car and of any of the documentation that he has claimed to have over the years (but not provided, as far as I can remember), that would be awesome.
Mick care to post a pic of your emblem or scan it?
Curious to see one up close
I found THIS thread referencing I think the FYI thread. It's got part of the VIN anyway showing it to be later than a member's old '82 GT.
Here are a few more pics he sent including door tag
Fixed (I Hope)

Can't link to Gmail attachments. We'd all have to have your Gmail user name and password to see 'em.
I called about this car well over a year ago,the seller said he had an deposit & was selling it for $2200,if the deal fell through he would contact me,so he never called and the car has been listed serval times since & the price has dropped everytime. It is actually in the September 1981 Motor Trend magazine where you can see the SS badge on the dash but no reference to it in the article. There are pics in the www.mustanggt.org reference gallery but you must be registered to view them.
