Got some more work done on the car. Doors/hood where all ready for paint, that is until my wife pushed my motorcycle over into the car and dented the drivers door and quarter. both fenders are done and the drivers side is in primer. I ran out of activator so the other one will have to wait till tomorrow. I'm almost done welding up the radiator support and bumper support and still have to fix where my wife F'ed the door and quarter up. If I can find the cable to our old camera and it cooperates I'll post up some pics tomorrow.(our less than one year old Nikon's battery took a crap)

This is a cool project. Can't wait to see it finished. We both did the same thing for a core support. I really like the tubing bumper idea. I had an idea like that but wasn't sure how it would work. How will the marker lights be mounted?

Thanks for the compliment, I can't wait to get it finished and drive it!

I am not going to run any marker lights. I will either block the holes off or use them for brake ducts.

Got the hood painted! The color is my very own secret mix, I call it "Poor Mans Cadillac White"

So it's been a couple of years since I updated this thread. Mainly because life happened and until now there has been zero progress. The car has been sitting in my dad's shed. So some things have changed in my life and I now have some time to work on it again and a goal. I have registered for the 24 hours of lemons race at Gingerman in June. I just painted the car this weekend. Lots more work to do!

Yeah it is way to nice. I know I'm going to get absolutely killed in the BS tech and given a metric buttload of laps. However I don't care, I just want to finish this project and have some fun with it. I saw the Roadkill episodes that they did lemons and thought it looked like fun. I have a car that's mostly done and got some buddies who also are stoked to do it.

    Thanks Trey,
It's been a long road with this car and there is a lot left to do. Being a Bodyman who prides himself on high quality work I had a tough time not going overboard making it perfect and leaving things I would normally have corrected. I could have easily had another 40 hours in the body! I had to keep telling myself "It's race car stop picking it apart and just paint it"

When the \ on the strips is level, set her down easy. Lol

J/K. But in all seriousness I've always loved that strip style.

As a kid I remember a guy up around Norfolk or Columbus NE had a foxbody that had that style of stripe. I saw him run in Scribner and Marion SD. That car the stripes were modified so when the car was on the bars the \ part of the stripe was level. Was always cool seeing those shots with the hoops hung and the stripes level.

your paint job reminded me of that.

    GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BUILD!

I think I still hold the title on long term project status at nearly 29 years. I'm dangerously close to taking my first drive ever in the car this spring.

I failed in the "its just a race car" strategy and ended up much closer to it being a show car.

I am catching you fast with my 69 Mach 1 Mustang. I am at 26 years and counting. Never actually driven the car due to floor boards and a frame rail being rotted out. Started having kids and I haven't gotten back to the car since.

Thanks Trey! I am totally Stoked to get this thing done. Even after all these years it seems to be taking so long now that I am actually working on it regularly again. I only get 2 days a week to work on it and sometimes not even that due to family stuff. It is so cool that my ex-employer is letting me work on it at his shop(helps he is going to the Lemons race with me). i helped him out and came back after Christmas for about 6 weeks. Part of the deal was I got to bring it there so I wouldn't have to pay to heat the garage and the I could use the booth. he even gave me my key back so sometimes on the weekends I bring the kids and we get a couple hours of not so productive work done on it
