    Default V6 stroker dyno

well project "baby" is ready for the street just a carb tune away. I found a local shp that will tune my carb and do 3 dyno pulls: 1 to get a baseline, 2 to tune for running 3rd tune for performance with mix/timing and ignition curve. not bad for $350.00,

I will post results for those that care not to run a v8

well as far as what I have done to it is this:

factory 4.2 crank, rods, and .030 oversise pistons (due to budget hypertechs not forged)
"heart-shaped" chamber heads with 4.2 valves and custom brodix guides (note the valve stems are different sizes so this is a must with the larger valves)
heads feature full porting and gasket matched ports and heavier springs

intake is a modified factory unit with the egr system under the carb blocked and the 3 warm up tubes removed to make room for the 4 bbl flange, fully ported and topped with an edelbrock 500cfm mechanical secondary carb w/ electric choke

cam is a .480 lift 218 duration with roller rockers, and I am running thunderbird supercoupe head gaskets

ok the results are in: 1st run-152.80 HP 220.95 max torque- too rich, short run
2nd run-175.39hp-223.78 ftlb - still too rich wot run
    3rd run-163.89 hp-202.21 ftlb - way too lean 50 mph 18.0 (yikes)

so new jets are coming, should have gotton a Holley( ) so we have a lil more tuning to go, but almost doubling HP from factory and no adder cant be real bad

    dyno was a dyno-jet

Damn thats good power. Thats about what a stock 87 to 93 5.0L would make so I would say that your doing good. I would have liked to see it witha 600 holley on it and jetting a holley is a 5 minute job.
If this were a 5 speed you would have been around 200 hp and after its tuned you might see another 15. Thats good enough to run high 12s if you have all the supporting mods.
Very impressive for such a mild (and small LOL) motor.

Dont just look at the HP numbers, torque is way shy of what a 5.0 makes stock. Those are still great numbers.
I used to work for Tommy Morana, so I know what those 3.8s are all about. He's got some guys out there running pretty sweet numbers, and his camshafts are pure magic. That guy knows his $hit!

Well, a stock 5.0 in 1983 was only getting 175 BHP with a 4bbl carb
    (Mustang, P. Henshaw/Chartwell books C 2006)

So my semi tuned motor is not too shabby at 175 with 3/4 of a tune AND an automatic

Yes, but we both know that's nothing to brag about lol :P
The fellow I quoted said 87-93 power, and the torque is the big difference there. Like Enzo Ferrari said "Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races" or something along those lines.
If you've ever had the chance to sit down and talk with Tommy Morana, you would be astounded at the things coming out of that guy's head! He's always making custom intakes and whatnot, give him a holler to see if there's any suggestions or ideas he could throw your way. I cannot say enough good things about Tommy, and even more so when it comes to those Ford 6s. Either way, keep us updated on your progress and try to post up the dyno sheet.

I know that it dont make as much TQ as the bigger motor but there is still enough power there to run what I said.

lol, I love guys who will be in denial that there 5.0 typically has little more then 200hp. These cars feel pretty damn fast, that's why I love em. lol The 5.0's are great motors, there just little factory torque monsters... Well, mayber not monsters, but you get the idea. haha

The last 5.0 I dynoed made 204rwhp with just a cat back through stock tailpipes, and well over 280 torque. Another made 214rwhp with cat back, timing bump, and CAI. Either way, these 3.8s have tons of potential plus the weight savings helps. I think with the right suspension and some traction the OP should see 13.6-13.9s....... Which is pretty damn respectable for a Ford 6

Ya know, every time I post stuff from the V6 realm it gets attention and disscussion but not a dedicated forum.... Even when I build my SuperCoupe motor that hands a couple V8 guys their turd cutter back to them they still will give no props
