TO MOD OR NOT TO MOD

I have a dilema, I have a very clean 79 pace car with 56k miles, 4spd, a/c. The car looks great stock but i am itching to mod it. I have all the parts to do it like 6 point cage, motor trans rear, 5 lug setup, i want to make a nice street car but should i do it on a clean low mile pace car? What do you guys think.

Thats it right there. Enjoy it now because if you keep it stock but your not really happy then what good is it. Mod the heck out of it and drive it and enjoy it every chance you get.

I agree, do what you want. Initially I was going to mod the living daylights out of my 86 GT. But I now enjoy telling people that the car is 95% stock and original. Even the 10 holes are starting to grow on me. I would leave it alone for a month or two and see what happens, if after that you still want to mod it go right ahead. Jleews6 is right, it basically boils down to enjoyment of the car.

I am in a similar situation myself with my 83GT Turbo. I have had it for 3 years now and it is about time for new tires. I have been against making changes because I wanted to keep it as original as possible, but I refuse to spend $1200+ for TRX replacements so I have been debating myself on modifications.

I have come to the conclusion that change is good and if I keep the original parts everything can be easily reversed. I say modify it, and keep the parts.

There is a person on this board who took an original 40 or 50-something K original mile 79 Cobra and made it into the best example of a 79 Cobra I have seen thus far. You may have seen it before.

I say upgrade the suspension and rear-end, then do subtle performance mods: '83-84 dual snorkel intake with no markings on the lid, 4bbl, mild cam, dual exhaust with stock Mustang shorties. Keep the wheels - they look great!

Dunno about the roll cage; just thinking of weight, it's kinda useless on a street car, but a basic cage that's built to blend in would fit the Pace Car theme.

i have seen some modded pace cars and they look great with the right mods, wheels, lowered, motor, exhaust, etc. as long as it is tasteful. my car is in my pics when i had a set of rikens on it.

That's right, Pace cars should be fast... the original t-top car that was used for the Indy 500 was no stock version that Ford sold to the public.

It is your car so do what you feel will make you happy. I would keep it looking stock, but would consider engine and suspension mods.

I went this route. My GT is modified and the Notchback is staying stock. Although, it's VERY tempting to start modifying it!

MJMUSTANG, do what you like! It's your car, and you should enjoy it. I did mine up totally stock at first, but after a couple of years I got bored and did many of the mods suggested by Mazlem. Let me tell ya, I LOVED it!! Still had the visual punch of the Pace Car, but had the balls to back it up. Still got it in the cards to do anther one at some point... Hmmm, V8, 4-speed with A/C? Interested in selling?

I would agree, plenty of 87-93 aerostang 5.0 LXs & GTs out there, better platform for modding anyway. You can always switch a few parts if you want the 4 eye look too.

I'd say if it's a nice original car leave it that way. Find another car to mod. There are only so many original cars left.

Keep it stock. Low mileage original fox bodies are getting harder to find. You can always find one that's in need of a good home and a little attention.

As for your Pace Car, I say to build it the way that you want it to be. I'm a huge fan of keeping the stock look but changing the drivetrain and wheels/tires.

When I was younger, I always though the Muscle Cars looked totally awesome with their Cragar Chrome wheels and big tires. They looked mean and nasty. That's the look I was going for on my car and I think your's would look killer with that look too.
