Default Please contribute pics of and data from ID tags, plates, stickers, etc.

I'm writing a large thread (which may end up being a tech article) covering the following ID tags, plates, stickers, labels, casting numbers, part numbers, etc. I need help documenting if they exist and if so where they're located, what they consist of or what's stamped, printed, or punched on them, pictures of them, and so on.

This list will change and or grow from time-to-time.

    Thanks!

VIN Tag (at the base of the windshield)

I need pics from several different years, since there are 11-digit and 17-digit VINs. If your windshield is removed, that's even better, so it shows where (cowl panel, or firewall, etc.) it's attached on the chassis. If you know where it's attached to the chassis, pipe up (and state the model year).

    Vehicle Certification Label

These are on the driver-side door or door jam area (convertibles). I need pics of these from several different years, since the general layout changed from time-to-time and the part number of the label did as well. Some low-mileage examples with no fading would be nice.

    Body/Buck Tag

I need to know if the tag was originally in a different location than the 'usual' spot...attached to the radiator core support, behind the driver-side headlamps. On the passenger side maybe? On the bottom of the radiator core support? Also, was is attached with a screw, a staple, or something else? I need pics of tags. I need general measurements (L x W). If you haven't posted yours for decoding please do so in a new thread, and please include as much info about your car as possible. Grab them from salvage yard vehicles and get as much info about the cars as possible. These things vary from year to year, and the two assembly plants (San Jose and Dearborn) seemed to have stamped them differently too. Did I mention I need pics? Lots of them. There are still al lot of unknown codes on these tags and I would like to figure them out.

    Inner Fender Tags

If you're ever removed your fenders, you may have seen these tags (one on each side). They're tack-welded to the outside of the inner fender rail. Chassis/collision repair professionals, please chime in as to the correct name of that section. A partial VIN is stamped on each of these tags. I need pics, clearly showing what is on the tag (e.g. *DF200735*) and another of the whole fenderless front end that has the tags in the shot from afar. If your car it pretty and clean, and the surroundsings are free of clutter, the better.

    Engine Block

    I need several things here.

First I need to know IF there is a partial VIN stamped on your block (for V8s - on a pad on the top-rear, right behind the intake). I need to know if it's viewable with the intake installed. I need to know what the number consists of (should be the last eight characters of the VIN but please verify). I need pics...some of a whole block from all sides and angles and some of the VIN stamping up close.

Second I need pics of the casting numbers, both the engineering/part number and the date code. I need to know where on the block it's located, and pictures showing the location. I need pics from several different years of blocks, showing the different casting numbers used throughout the four eyed Fox run.

Third I need pics of other miscellaneous casting marks, especially a time/shift casting mark (looks like a clock, with dots and an arrow). Pics of any other marks you can find on a block is great...casting plant marks or foundry marks, "YYY" or "XXX" casting marks, miscellanous numbers and letters, etc.

Right now I'm just going to concentrate on the 5.0L block. Maybe later we'll get to the 2.3L, 2.8L, 3.3L, 3.8L, and 4.2L blocks.

    Heads

Same thing as the block. Any pics of casting numbers, date codes, time/shift stamps, or other marks you can find on the heads is great. And pics of the entire head too. I need D8OE-xx, E5AE-xx, and E6SE-xx heads.

    Intakes

Same as the block and heads goes for the intake too...casting numbers, date codes, other marks. Pics of the entire intake too. And not just the '83-'85 4V or '86 SEFI intake(s) either. I want input from you 2V and CFI owners too.

    Engine Calibration Label

On 5.0L engines, this was a large, white sticker affixed to one of the valve covers. It had a bunch of letters and numbers on it, indicating what size engine it was, how it was calibrated, when it was built, etc. I need pics of these stickers.

    Carburetor

I need pics of a new or recently restored carb, and pics of the numbers on the airhorn and the tag. Also any pics of the date (year) and time/shift casting marks on the base.

    Transmission

I need to know if your transmission has a partial VIN stamped on it, where it is, and what the stamping consists of (should be the last eight of the VIN, but please verify). I need to know if it's on manual transmissions and auto transmissions alike. I also needs pics of the stamping and of a whole transmission. I need pics and all info from the ID tags from T-5s, SRODs, C4s, C5s, C3s, etc. Also any casting numbers, part numbers, pics, etc. from the main case, bellhousing, tailshaft, top cover, etc.

    Rear Axle

I need pics of axle tags and all data from them. I also need pics of entire assembled housings, empty housings, closeup of the frontside and backside of the differential housing (center section). Also look for the casting number and date code on the forward (engine side) of the differential housing, and take pics of them.

You do mean all 79-86 Fox cars right? Capris and SVOs included?

I will email you the Capri and Turbo GT info tonight as they are both in a state of disassembly.

Yes, all '79-'86 Mustangs (including SVOs) and Capris, including the Turbo GT/RS models.

Disassembled is GOOD! Easy to take pics of casting numbers, stamping, tags, etc.

Snake: Thanks! Those tags look CLEAN. I copied your post to a new thread. I'll do the decoding there. I want to try to keep this thread on point of just collecting images instead of getting sidetracked decoding all this stuff.

    Here's your new post:

How's about warranty card plates? I don't have the paper card, but I do have the metal plate that went with mine from the GT. I'd have to find it, but they are pretty interesting when found.

Fox, look at my cardomain site for "orginal owner stuff" or something like that. Jusst browse the whole thing. and yes my serial number of the car is on the flat boss at the rear of the block on my 302, and Nelson's 302 also. He can post pics of that if you need to...and you can read them with the intake on. Some day, mu car will come apart, and it will all be there.

I'll get you some pics of the 85 GT for sure, pretty much unmolested car. The few new decals on it are direct replacements of worn original ones. I'll take pics of any unmolested stuff on the LX vert too for you.
If you would like these emailed just PM it to me. Probably take me a while to get them all for you though.
