    Default 86 Capri Header panel

Howdy all.. I found a small crack and portion of the front headlight header panel that is broken on my 86 capri. I was told by matt that the 85 86 NOS gt headlight header panels that he sells wont work on the capri? I thought they were identical except for the grill that bolts onto it? Can someone clarify the difference as I'm truly a newbie in this department.

For reference, here is the link to the 85 /86 gt headlight header panel for sale at foxmustangretoration.com that I was looking at.. http://www.foxmustangrestoration.com/?p=vp&id=479

He's right. Capri headers are unique.

I have a similar issue with a spare I have. I was going to repair it with some fiberglass repair.

If anyone has a better fixing prodect, LMK please.

That is why I take any good Capri header panels that I see my local yard.

While the Capri header is similar to the 79-82 mustang one, the reason they are different is due to the fact that the nose on the Capri is vertical and the Mustang slopes down. I compiled a pic below to show the difference.

Since the Mustang's is designed to have a mounting point for the side marker there is extra material there that prevents the Capri cover from fitting. The header isn't thick enough to cut it down to make it fit. The 83-86 would be even more difficult to modify since it doesn't have provisions for the headlight trim.

Also, the Capri panels have subtle changes over the years. Nothing earth shattering I think but I know that the 84 one I had was different in certain spots compared to the 85 one I had. The changes shouldn'a affect installation from what I could tell.
