Default Cross Country in the SVO Update

Well the SVO is officially mine, and after a long day of dreary North west wet weather and 22 hours without sleep I finally arrived in Boise. The car run excellent, but I have to say that the first hour was the worst. The Washington roads nearly rattled my teeth out of my head. I thought pieces were gonna fall off, lol. Then I hit the mountains and see the signs that say snow chains of tires required, along with the 6 inches of snow on the ground. Thankfully the roads were clear. 5 hours after leaving Seattle I hit Oregon and the roads stopped talking and everything smoothed right out.

I am a little bit concerned about the lack of fuel mileage I am getting. I am guessing that i am getting about 200 per tank, but I guess that could be a combo of me running at 80mph and the 4.10 gears. I do have a fresh fuel smell when the window is down a little bit, but I didn't see any visable leaks so I am not too concerned. I'll keep an eye on it.

With all the bad weather I did get to play a little bit. I pulled out from a light here in Boise and gave it a bit too much throttle and I heard "WOOOOSHHHHHH" and next thing I know I am getting some sideways action. Then a guy in a late 80's RX-7 come around at "full spool" giving me a thumbs up as he speeds away. This is gonna be a fun car once I get home and get a new FPR and the Fuel issue resolved.

Tomorrow's plan is to make it to the Littleton/Golden/Denver area so stay tuned.

Congrats on the purchase and this above is why the mileage isn't so good.

Try to stay under 75 and it should help....

Be sure to post up some pictures of your trip!

I didn't get any pictures yesterday because it was raining the entire way, and it looks like the weather is going to follow today, but being daytime I will get a few and post them tonight.

    coming through KC at all?

Yeah, its gotta be boarderline on boost at those speeds with the SVO T5 and 4.10s. My car usually got about 26-28mpg on the highway.

the gas millage should get better at below 3100 rpm and if you are doing 80 I am pretty sure you above that mark. glad to hear the car is running well for you. I didn't even think to give you a heads up on the roads around here, they are pretty bad in spots. I usually take the side roads to work instead of the freeway because of that (it makes it feel like the tires are out of balance) and those stiffer springs do not help the matter. Don't forget the konis are adjustable and they too are also set high so you can adjust them down to make it a bit smooter.

Well I made it to Golden Colorado and called it a night. Gonna hang out with a couple friends for part of Monday then head out Interstate 70 east. I did get some pictures today, but I am on dial up right now so they will have to wait for a high speed connection in the morning.

I have determined that the first thing I am doing when back in NC is ripping this 4.10 7.5 and replacing it with a 3.55 8.8. I did find that if I want to go 80 I have to maintain that speed/RPM to keep decent fuel mileage. I averaged 23mpg today and that was running 75-80 most of the way.

Car is running excellent I must add!

I was getting nervous about the no update myself. very glad to hear it is running well for you, sorry to hear about the poor gas millage though. my other svo with a fully modded engine has the 7.5 with 3.73 gears and all freeway (trips to canada) it averages 32mpg. I still have the stock gear setup for yours in the garage if you want me to mail it?

If you are running 70East through Ohio (Dayton area) let me know. I live in Huber Heights, and it is the first exit off 70E after going over the I-75 interchange. Phone # is 407-460-9689...if I don't answer right away, leave a message and I will call back! You can crash at my place.

My hat's off to you. I drove a car back from South Dakota to Virginia about 5 years ago. I happily paid shipping after that.

Glad to hear things are going well. That last pic you posted was sweet.

Yes, imho, the SVO gearing sucks balls. I want to cruise at 90... ...and not turn 4200 rpm to do it. A V8 T5 will help things a bit too.

That SVO is sweet. I love the new GT rims on the car. Any fitment/backspacing/offset issues with those wheels?
