Okay so the SVO & GT Turbo wiring problems have severly put the brakes on the Capri, but it looks like I am back on the right track. I got the old front suspension & k-member out and the new tubular unit and manual rack are now in place. I hope to pick up new ball joints and get the rest of the SN95 front suspension and brakes put in place. I have been thinking alot lately about building a 351 stroker instead of the 2.3t, but the jury is still out on that one.

Got some of the driver side fender apron cleaned up today. Used spray gun cleaner and the paint and grime for the most part wiped right off.

Looks great. Nice and solid. Are you going to fill all those holes?

It is my plan to fill them, but my welder friend has been out of town for the past 5 months working and filling the holes depends largely on how much time he has when he gets back. I am almost to the point of taking it to a body shop to have the radiator support replaced, and fender apron panel/trans hump installed.

Anyone in SEVA/NENC with a welder and skills I can borrow?

You should buy a cheap MIG and go to town on it. They are super easy to learn on and after you fill the first 60-70 holes you'll be a pro.

Time to resurrect an old thread and get it going again.

For the first time in over a year I decided that I'd start working on the Capri again. I got the front suspension back in the car, and mocked up the 05 wheels (tires go on this weekend). I planned on using the sn95 control arms but determined that the tubular kmember was built based off a later era fox car so I had to stick with the stock control arms so the wheels sit inside the fender well. Here are todays progress pics, of course it all has to come apart again once I move into the new house.

Well finally got the tig/mig welder and I've been spending the past few days filling holes in a test panel. With any luck at all the project will move forward fast come the weekend. Stay tuned.

Got the replacement panel tacked into place and run out of welding wire. Guess I'm off to the welding supply store tomorrow.

Got most of the holes in the passenger strut tower filled in and smoothed out.

I am welding the holes shut, and once done I will go back with filler and smooth everything over. I've never welded thin stuff like this before I started on this project. My buddy is letting me borrow his welding rig, and it's so slick you can actually run a bead and not burn through. Of course I spent a few days practicing on a piece of scrap (taurus quarter panel). I counted 325 holes in the engine bay last night.

I got the same problem, I was welding up some repair patches in ironically the same panel and I kept burning through it and welding up the stress crack in the tranny hump was interesting.

Looks like I have to invest in a better welder (mine is Hobart Handler 125).
