Default rear louver install help. Please?

Hey guys! I have an aluminum ( I think) rear window louver that I've been wanting to put on my Capri, it's the one that bolts/rivets onto the hatch, and I thought since my hatch already have holes, I guess from the previous owners having one on it, it shouldn't be a problem.

I was wondering if any of you guys could post close up pictures of the hardware that holds your louvers to the hatch. What I had in mind was have hinges on the top, and then latches on the bottom. Anybody knows where to get the hardwares?

    Many thanks!

Yes, I think you're right. But isn't there some that have hinges, so u could raise the louver up and clean your rear window?

You'll need to get a RIVNUT tool, which is like a rivet but the center is threaded. I bought a kit for $35 at a local fastener supplier shop. Very simple and works great. Louvers don't rattle at all.

Cleaning the glass is this simple...

Hey Mike! Not much has changed on my Capris, 'cept for the fact that the RS is now a 5 speed and has a 4V Edelbrock carb now.. of course, that'll all change when I get it smogged again, hehe. I'm gonna post some pics of the louver install once I figure out what size fasteners I need to get.

I admire your persistence to perform a carb/and probably manifold swap between smog checks. You rock.

Haha. well it was a necessity, the carb I had on it had a crack on bottom of the main body, though I made sure I was replacing it with something that can use all my emission equipments with, and wasn't gonna guzzle too much fuel. I actually had my friend do a pre-test on it, it ran cleaner than his 82 stang with the stock set-up, go figure.

I just bought myself an 85 and it had the louvers on them. It looks like the hinge plates were actually glued to the window and slid underneath the trim piece. Were these things a factory option or all aftermarket?

I would like to add a question to this. I have a Ford set of louvers that attach to the hatchback glass with tape. What tape would you recommend so that they will not fall off while I am driving down the road.

    Thanks!

There were a few aftermarket types you could get that were attached like that. I think Cragar even made one. The bolt on one like in my photos are the Ford that came from factory or dealer option too.

I would use the double sided black 3M type. Make sure the surfaces are nice and clean.

I believe the later model ones came from the factory with the double sided tape. The spoiler on the 85-86 is bigger and the spoiler above with the rivet nuts would hit the newer type spoiler. You could also of course buy aftermarket ones with the tape also.

Here are the pictures of the louver set up on my 85. Personally I don't like them and was going to remove them, (just bought the car last week) but I am afraid because they are slid underneath the trim on the back window that the back window will start leaking. So I am going to hold off for now. I am not even sure what is the best way to remove the adhesive other than with a putty knife or something like that.

I wouldn't use a putty knife, try some goo gone, works well for adhesives without damage to windows or paint. Make sure you try a test spot first though if it's on paint.

I had a set on my first 85 for years. It attached with tape on the window. It never gave me any mounting problems. I did have problems with bad, meaning almost impossible to remove, water spots.
