Good deal....one of the mods on www.specialservicemustang.net has an '85 that he bought from the guy that runs www.dpsmustang.com. (currently being restored). The VIN on this one should fall withing the range of those purchased that year by DPS.

I'm hot for ssp's...My dream is to purchase one and restore it to full duty.
I think 2 grand for a roller that's been sitting since it was two years is a SCREAMING deal...I'd jump on it in a heartbeat

possible, its would be later on in the day though.
Question, how did this car which only had 2 years service get 81,000 miles on it? Thats 110 miles aday 365 a year for 2 years. Who drives that much everyday of the week?

It was not uncommon for me to put over 100 miles a shift on my car back when I worked for a city PD in FL (city was about 50 square miles). In rural Texas, with sometimes only one trooper to handle a much larger area, it's not unheard of. I haven't run a Carfax on it, but it should show exactly how long it was in-service for.

the guy said he bought it at auction in '87.he ran 1 scca race in it busted the headgasket and its been parked since.i would love to see what a carfax would say about it.
Carfax shows it was sold in 1987. Assuming it didn't sit in Austin on either end for too long (when ordered and made-ready and a few weeks for decommissioning), it was in-service for just over 2 years.
My '83 made it to the end of '87 also...maybe they were on the lot together in Austin? It came out at 135,000 miles.

So, what's going on with this one? Are pics coming soon? There are a few people anxiously awaiting more information.
bare with me guys, the car isnt around the corner.its 40 miles away from my house.ill get pics when i get that way.
screw the drive train.. no need for it. give the guy $1500 and take it..
I wouldn't mind owning any year dps coupe and I think they are sweet cars.
Maybe I should buy it, I'm looking for a original 5.0 coupe from 85-86... look what I found in the link below... I could use the drivetrain from it.

If it helps, I sold an '86 coupe rolling on eBay in Feb. It was originally from SC, rust free, straight, worn but complete interior. I put it up for no reserve and it went for $1200.
im not making anything off the car.all the cash goes to the owner.
My 95 Caprice 9c1 was in service until 2 years ago and had only 79,000 on it when I bought it.. Although it was used as a Fire Chief's car..
I think 81,000 in 2 years sounds a little high... and I can't imagine that they were using that SSP for routine patrols..
They did use them for road work....just like the Crown Vics, Caprices, Camaros, etc. etc. 81K is high, but not impossible. I work with a Trooper who drove an '87 DPS in service and it also lasted about two years. He was the only Trooper in his assigned area, which was huge, and he was called out regularly to work traffic crashes involving deaths (THI). He was on-call 24/7, and sometimes worked 7 days a week.
