Default BARN FIND 1985 ssp coupe

i found a guy with a 1985 ssp coupe.less motor/tranny.very straight body with 81k on it.he bought the car at auction in 1987.blew a headgasket immediatley and parked it in a barn.all the interior has been taken out but the dash and door panels.he has everything to go back in it.he also has a clear title to it.keep in mind this car has been in a barn since 1987.

what do YOU think this car is worth?

man i just got off the phone with him again.the body is very good,no rust or dents.he wants 2k for it rolling.the car was in service for 2 years he bought it to go scca racing with.the first trip to the track he blew the headgasket and the car has been barned every since 1987.

i saw it this morning, dps had it repainted grey.you can see where it was black and white.the interior is grey and the dash and door panels look great.i would guess the rest of the interior looks great since its been stored in his shop.it does have the original black steel wheels on it that dps used.

sorry no pics.ill get pics next time i go over there.

Sounds like a great restoration project!

2k seems a bit high to me for a car that is in boxes. Nice find none the less.

i think it can be had for 1500-2k.its a real good car to own.to put a motor tranny in this car and repaint it black and white would be killer.what do these go for original like that?

I agree...little high for just a roller. Sounds like a nice car, though. Does the guy have the original drivetrain somewhere?

It would be worth a little more $$ (IMHO) if the original drivetrain were with the car. Of course...I guess you could always try to buy it from him later on down the line.

yeh,but you can find stock motors and t-5's all day both for under $1000.
put your interior back in and you have a ssp coupe that only had 2 years of use.
btw this is a texas dps car originally black and white.someone with a serious offer could get this car im sure.1500.cash would probably do it.

Agreed...but it will always be worth more, down the line, with the original drivetrain in it. I bought my '83 DPS for $900, as a complete, running car (little rough, but complete).

$1500 isn't crazy high. I'd like to see some pics, too.

agreed, but if memory serves me, the drivetrain components for our fox's aren't vin stamped....for that reason, all one would have to do is find a correct date coded drivetrain, drop it in, and call it original, no?

The engines and transmissions are both VIN stamped. In this case, at least we know where the original stuff can still be found.

The VIN stamp on the block is on the back side not visible when in the engine compartment, but it is there. I am not sure where it is on the transmission, but I have been told it is there as well.

It's not the whole 17-character VIN. It's the last eight characters (model year, assembly plant, and production sequence number), which is enough to match it to one car only.

I was told it was the last 6 of the VIN, the last digit of the model year, and the "Z", for Mustang part number. I have an auto-theft book around here somewhere with pictures, but not readily available. All of my engines are currently in cars.
