    Default Pilot bearing bushing??

Im about to bolt up my C-4 to this motor and I remember it was a 5 speed before, so I have the pilot bearing out, but the bushing is not co-operating. I have hammer pullers etc, but there is not much to grab onto after the bearing is out, any tips, ideas?, it soaking in penetrating oil right now.

    Thanks, Todd

Not to sound stupid but I'm confused. The C4 is an auto trans...what do you need the pilot bearing for? You just need flexplate, torque converter and trans to mount it up....but again I'm confused.

You are correct, Im trying to get it out. I have the bearing out, but the outer bushing, retainer, whatever you call it is not coming out of the crank, and the whole thing needs to be out as the torque converter needs to fit in this area.

the three pronged pilot bearing puller from autozone works best. They'll rent it to you, and wack wack wack, it's out.

In a pinch, use a soft moldable clay, or a thick grease, pack it in the hole, and use a socket with an extension that just barely fits into the hole, and tap it (pack the socket with grease too) the compression will squeeze it out.

Try a hammer and small sharp chisel. You may also want to replace the rear mail seal before you bolt up the transmission

Nope bearing cage is long gone, whats left is about a 3" round X 1/2" thick hunk of steel that the bearing sits in.

It does have 3 small slots(very small) in the back for the proper tool to fit in, no Autozones around here(Canada), but I,ll try some otheres after one more run at it when I get home from work tonight.

Wohoo, its out, took some effort as the threads on the puller were in bad shape right where it needed to tension up the arms, but I ran a die down them and all is good now. Time to drop the motor in, maybe I,ll have this thing together befor its time to put it back in storage again, lol.
