Is yours missing? If so, be careful what you get another one from because the tailshaft can be longer. The Mustang/Capri has a shorter tailshaft than say, Fox Lincolns. The tailshaft can be changed, though.
There were no other AODs that were stronger, if that's what you're getting at. Only a few parts were, e.g. "A" overdrive servo in '92/'93 trucks and Thunderbird SCs. Now there are (factory and or aftermarket) parts that can be changed or added that will up what the transmission will withstand...input and output shafts, OD servo, clutches, etc.

Mine is still in. I need to keep it installed so the car can be driven to shops (not towed).
Basically, I want to buy another AOD to have re-built. But I don't know what years are interchangable.
Thank you.

another option is to use a 4R70W from a '99 or later V-6 Mustang and use a Baumanator electric controller. Little more upfront cost but an improved, stronger version of the AOD. Should cost a little less to rebuild a 4R70W than it takes to build a really strong AOD.
There is some good AOD information in the forums on this site:

Good luck with yours.
