VARY NICE work! I would never be so patient! I have done some body work in the past, and no matter how hard I try, when I'm finished I have always been able to see the areas that I filled. I guess it's because I know where they are, not that they are bad.I see divits, or where I think I should have feathered it in better...whatever. It drives me nuts!

Anyhow, I don't bother anymore. If anything needs body work it either goes without, or I pay someone to do it and stay away from the shop till it's done!

    Default Ready for paint

Well spent some more time in the garage this week, it's basically ready for paint exept for the rear bumper cover. After all the body work including wet sanding, I had a mess in the garage so I backed the car out and hosed out all the crap. Figured I would snap a few pics while the Capri is outside.

Thanks, I keep pecking away at it, slowly. An hour here, an hour there as time allows. Worked on the rear bumper last night for a bit

Joe, it's looking awesome! I can't wait to see it at one of the shows. How many hours do you think you've got into it? One day before I die, I will paint my own car.

    Hey Joe,

I'm coming in a little late here I guess. I've just read through the whole thread and you're doing a great job. I'm looking forward to seeing the completed project.

Keep up the good work, Ken

I'm not totally shure, haven't really been keeping track. That red 82 GT will surely take a bunch more time, that's for sure.

Thanks Ken - unfortunately the RS isn't leaving much time for the SVO though. Hence the reason why the newsletter was so late this fall.....

I just thought you were waiting on my sorry butt to turn in the article on the Pace Car?
    HAHA

Now that the comp prep is here I should start to focus back on the Pace Car.

Nope, the car only has about 49k original miles and there are no rust issues anywhere near the louvers. So I will just spray the louvers and window trim semi gloss black. Besides, I don't feel like taking the rear 1/4 interior panels out.

    Default Baby Steps....

Well here is the most recent update on the RS project.

I finally got the rear bumper de-striped, sanded, filled, and primed:

Stripe removal on the bumper covers suck, you can't just grind it off and the residue needs to be removed with something like goo gone.

It's ready for paint, loosely hung back on the car:

Now I've been working on getting the quarter / door black trim painted, here is the pass side:

That's all for now. I keep taking baby steps with a few hours here and there. But I'm in the home stretch now. Already have the paint, just need to finish up some of these small details.

    Major update - here goes:

First - car in the garage fully wet sanded and masked.

In these pics, the gray sealer is applied and the silver is already sprayed on the bottom of the car and masked off:

    A few more pics

Now comes the fun part of putting the car back together, painting the blacked-out trim, etc. Just as a refresher, here is what the car looked like when I picked it up:

It's been a long time in the works, and I got de-railed more than a few times along the way, but I'm really happy it's come this far. Enjoy!
