Never thought about the Line-x. Sounds like a good idea.

Made some progress with the rear axle...

The big 8.8 with 20+ years of use and rust on it.

So I took it apart and sand blasted the whole thing.

Then I painted it with "Chassis Black" so it will never rust again.

Then I finish coated it with Gloss Battleship Gray.

And I also completely re-built the differential. New clutches, bearings, races, seals and a set of 3.73 gears! Moser axles are waiting to be put in.

Did you use a rattle can or brush for the paint in the engine bay and underside?

Both... after taking it all down to bare metal I used a brush on rust preventive paint called "Chassis Saver." Then I put 2 coats of primer, wet sanded it and rattle can gloss black as a finish coat. The previous pictures of the underside are of it in primer because the finish coat turned out so shiney that it's hard to get a good picture of it due to the reflection... but here's the best I could get.

Looks really good. What kind of primer and rattle can black did you use? I gotta do this to mine this winter, I just hope the paint can dry in an unheated garage.

I bought a new AOD from Performance Automatics. It's the Competition series and I had them install the "H" valvebody, which means it is rated at 550hp and I can shift it without doing the 1-D-1-D shuffle. I can hold each gear to redline and when I lift it will go into OD or I can put it in OD and let it shift on it's own if I want. With my new B&M Hammer shifter, it'll be almost as fun to drive as a 5 spd. It arrived painted metallic blue... I have no idea why, but I planned on painting it anyway, so no biggie.

    Here it is painted blue...

After I scuffed the blue paint, I primered it...

Here it is painted Ford gray...

    More progress on the rear.

    Got some new Moser axles.

I pressed longer lug studs in for the slicks.

    New wheel bearings.

    New axle seals.

A pic of the axles installed.

New stainless brake lines and a new Mac differential cover.

I've gone over how the underside was done earlier in this thread... it was a several step proceedure. Not very fun to do, but well worth it.

Thanks, Hissing Cobra. As far as what I'm hoping for at the track... 11 anything. Just as long as I'm in the 11's. LOL.
