Thread: Birdman's Capri

  1. #1

    Default Birdman's Capri

Well, I'm pretty bummed. Birdman's Capri has some pretty serious rust (frame rail) and I don't know if it can be saved or not. He was in a box as he had to have it gone by the next day. We renegotiated it to a parts car price. I'm not interested in parting it out, I don't have the time. I'll get pics up this weekend to get opinions on whether it can be saved. I was going to leave it but he had no choice and I told him that if I'm wrong about it I'll send him more money. I posted this here since I didn't want to keep clogging up the for sale area. Below is a link to the original thread:

Sorry, I know this is rambling but it just sucks.

If you decide to save it, I can help you out on donor parts.

Man, that does blow. I hope that you can save it. Post some pics, and if you decide that you don't want to put the time or money into it, I live 90 miles south of you (Va Beach area) and would be interested in taking up the task of repairing it.

    I may as well, too.

It's complete but needs more work than you think from the pictures. The a pillar is bubbling on the passenger side, paint is bubbling under the 'spoiler'. The interior had been painted and the panels are peeling. It's been outside and the t-tops have been leaking. I'll get the pics up and hopefully if it's too big for me someone else could save it.

Post some pics of the areas of concern and I will give you advice.

If you need parts to fix it I will donate what I have to you.

I think there's a lot of us that'd be willing to pitch in something in order to keep this car from fading into oblivion.

Get some good pics up and let's all have a good think on it.

That's one of the reasons I brought it home was to keep it out of a yard. I really appreciate the offers, it's not financial issues, it's time. I've still got 8 hours of driving ahead of me to put it all in perspective. I don't want it butchered either. When I saw the passenger side sway bar mount hanging on the sway bay I was sick. I reached under it and put 3 fingers through the pass frame rail very easily. I'll get pics as soon as possible. Jeff, you're right New England is an evil place for automobiles. 85,000 original miles. Damn.

I think that psychotic school girl with a bloody butcher knife. Just grabbed
    a fork...this one done.

The body looked pretty nice from the other pics. Must of had it
sitting out side on a dirt surface....what damn shame.

Ouch, my first thought is the crimson cat shell that svt1996cobra is giving away. I am willing to grab it when the snow melts, but you need it more than I.

Oh man that thing is toast.

I cant believe the extent of the rust underneath compared to the pictures of the outside of the car....

That sucks. I was so excited about that car.

It would make a perfect donor for someone though. Want to buy my '86 SVO roller?? LOL

WOW, I agree that it has probably seen it last days on the road. Well unless someone wants to put a tube chassis under it.

It can be fixed...just depends on money. Look at the work these guys do:
    http://www.precisionresto.com/home.html

This is where my '82 is going for a complete body make-over. And after that is done, my '83 Crimson Cat is going under the knife. Try, try, try to save it.

    Also look here:
    http://www.sn65.com/

I mean, you're really not too bad. Who cares about the rear end? Either blast it or toss it and get a new one. Try to save it if you can. These cars are just too cool to send to the crusher.

Yeah with enough time it could be fixed.

But there are enough rust free shells out there that I would consider finding a roller and swapping over the parts and then selling what you don't use.

The snow/salt/sand really does a number on the cars up there.

IMO its silly to even attempt to fix rust like that. That that is only the rust you can see. Imagine how bad it is once you start taking things apart. This car is cool but its no shelby GT500 where you can afford to invest 30k into it.

If you want to try to do something with it then find a solid rolling chassis to put all the rare parts into.
