This will be a virtually brand new car when complete. I have the exact same plans for my '82. Budget sits at $25k for mine from start to finish and it will be brand new when I am done. It will also have way more style than anything else from the showrooms at the same $$$.

stopped in today, not much to see...
the roof was a little rough in spots, so they swapped with the 85..cleaned out all the lead blending the roof w/ the 1/4 panels.. used All-Metal to blend the seam..
been too busy working to get down there before closing, so pictures are gonna be off and on this week..

It sounds like both of you know what it takes to build a show car. I'm into mine for around $24k and it's been worth every dime so far. I wouldn't trade it for any brand new machine.

Thanks. That figure also included the purchase price. I pretty much replaced everything with brand new parts so that the car was virtually brand new in the mechanical department. I wanted everything to be "new" at the same time to minimize mechanical breakdowns.

I'll never be able to sell it for that much but I built it to enjoy and couldn't fathom selling it anyway.

I wish I had the space you have to work with when I did my car. Either I was outside or I had one foot around the sides to work in the garage.

Your progress pics are great. I too have much more into my car than its worth. I probably should have bought a rust free shell and started from there. But whats the fun in that.

This thread is in the same lines as my 86GT TTop build-up. The 2 differences....1) I am doing 90% of the bodywork myself....2) I am doing some SERIOUS mods to the car (as in welding on Capri quarters, intigrating a cage INTO the inner bodywork, adding narrowed Mustang fender lips to the Capri fenders/quarters, extending the rear wheelhouses into mini-tubs using factory wheelhouses, building sheetmetal SVO wheelspats and rocker moldings to be integrated into body, integrating a round gas door, building a custom hood, and doing an integrated front splitter into the front bumper and an integrated diffuser into/on the rear bumper).
Before you hate on me for 'killing' a Capri; the rear quarters came from a wrecked 82 that had been sitting in a Florida salvage yard sinse 91, and the front fenders were rescued from a Caprang that was going to the crushers. The 86 GT had a little rust, and had been hit in the front and buckled in the front roof area, so it was a good starting point to merge the parts.
The 84 TurboGT will be getting the bodywork you are doing here, and your work inspires me to get mine done. Keep it up and keep posting!

the car is a little over 5/8 done.. closer to 3/4 but not quite..
heres the progress from yesterday and today..
    roof replaced, skimmed and sanded
    hatch is stripped
as far as a time line... best guess was primer next week.. paint.. then reassembly..
