Default So, how do I make my 8.8 not do this anymore?

I'm looking for a new one, I was thinking that a diff cover with a girdle might help, but what other things can I do?

Were the bolts pulled out of their threads or broken off? If the caps were the cause of the breakage then a set of billet ones would prevent that in the future.

I was thinking along the same lines myself.

Blowing up an 8.8 is quite an accomplishment.

A 351w, a carbon kevlar clutch, and a bad control arm bushing. That cap broke across the bolt holes, and the bolts in the other cap bent.

Something wasnt right in that rear end. I have seen those 8.8's withstand 800+rwhp verts launching and never break like that.

I agree...something was wrong to make that happen. I go 1.25 60 fts and have never seen one like that...it wasn't from too much power.

I think the shock load from the axle hop did it. The wheel spinning freely and then taking load repeatedly for a couple seconds, plus the fact that clutch wouldn't slip and the u-joints wouldn't snap meant that something had to take the brunt of the force. As odd as it sounds, I'm planning on making a driveshaft loop and using cheap u-joints, just in case. If they do break I could replace them with a simple tool set and a little improv. That is, until I drop some money on nice gears and axles
