I figured I would post this for posterity.
I searched long and hard to find this on the web but no dice.
I think I found it on a Recaro Trans Am website at some point and its probably gone.
Good Info If you need It.

Here is something I wrote a while back
unzip the seat back. The zipper is on the bottom of the seat back where the Seat back meets the seat bottom. Next, take a nice big screw driver and pull the material back from the seat back frame. Inside you will see the black head rest guide that the headrest goes through. The headrest is simply attached by a groove on the silver headrest shaft, which clicks into place into a notch in the black headrest guide. If you insert the flat tip screw driver onto the front part of the silver shaft inside the black headrest guide (you will understand when you look at it) Take and twist the screwdriver. At the same time, have a buddy pulling on the head rest. Twisting the screwdriver takes that silver shaft, and pulls it away from the groove so the head rest can come out.

The link doest work because of the site changeover.
BTW, I found the easiest way to remove the headrests is to push the seat back padding out of the way until you see where the posts come through. Simply whack the ends of the posts with a hammer and they will pop right out.

I did see a "how to" on how to remove them w/o taking them apart...but they are secured with "hood" pins...I don't see how it's possible...These are pics of my resto in progress...No zippers anywhere either.
Look closely and you will see the pins...

hopefully this wont disapear again.
worked for me and didnt need to take the seat apart.
It did take two people though, one to press in on the pin and one to pull up on the headrest.
I dont think the pins hold the headrest in as much as they put tension on the slots in the post. I think that pressing on the cross bars in the right place releases the tension and allows the headrest to come loose. I could be wrong as ive never taken the seat apart.
n20capri, how are the seats coming, I cant wait to see your next post.

Well I haven't worked on them in a while...the last phase (that I didn't have a chance to post about) was some metal work on the real bad seat...I had it blasted and I replaced some of the rotted out sections...
BUT between having surgery and this:
I haven't had time to mess with them...
