    Some states here do the same for yearly (or bi-yearly) registration. New York state does. North Carolina goes by valuation for yearly property taxes on vehicles.
    colorado ups the taxs on anything bigger than a 1/2 ton truck also. The only downside to owning my dodge.

    Higher gas prices would be good for America, and good for the world

    Really...I'm not kidding

    I'm not saying if they went up to $17 a gallon next week the world would be a better place, but if gas was expensive, like $17 a gallon, we'd be driving corn powered cars or something by now

    It would super-suck if it happened over night
    But really if it had been getting higher all these years, we wouldn't drive so much, work so far away...

    It'd be incentive to invent/make alternatives

    We'd have a better public trans system

    More wind/sun power

    It's not good to base a civilization's economy on a non-renewable resource that pollutes when used
