    Default Hey Fairmont guys...

You guys might have heard of Car Craft/Hot Rod mag staff writer Steve Magnante's altered base Fairmont project car. He plans to drop a new "Cammer" with the whole Hillborn injection set-up to pay homage to old gassers.

I caught up with him as he drove his beast on the roads of El Monte...(i'm the guy in the black t-shirt)

And here's the match-bash racer with its nostalgia stance...

I am impressed. I havent seen a altered wheelbase car in years, especially a newer chassis like a Fairmont.

He actually went to do his laundry. It still sports the original 6 banger, so its streetable, even with the solid axle front end.

That's cool as hell. I always liked reading his articles...

Silly question time...What year Fairmont is that? I didn't know they made a two-door in that particular roof line. I've only seen the Futuras, etc.

yea they made those for a few years I think....I would love to find me one of those in wicked shape!

guess im gonna have to make a trip down to the US and pick me up a rust free example....all we have here his rust and bondo buckets...the clean cars are hard to find, and cost you and arm and a leg... unless u get lucky or you score a 4 banger Mustang in half decent shape...

Croke dug up a bunch of (if not all) the magazines with the Car Craft Futura...should I scan them? (Duh...)

So, didja push the site to him? Huh? Huh? Didn't think so

Magnante is a cool guy...that's a wicked cool car

So, how did you manage to actually strike up the conversation? I'm assuming you probably have a little more tact than I do...most people do...

I basically stalked him...I went looking for his house, and when he wasn't home, me and my friend started driving away as he turned the corner. I pulled over and just began talking about the car, his articles and my love for JY thrashing. I offered my services as a task monkey (my official job description) and he mentioned that Car Craft was looking for some staffers. I left my contact info, and told him that I'd by at a better time. He seemed cool as hell and LOVES what he does.

Oh Skye, I'd be reppin' the FEP all over!

Stalked him...awesome! Are we a bunch of lunatics or what? That'd be great if you could be a CC task monkey.

Yes it would... can you imagine getting paid to go junkyard shopping, playing around with cars and going to the best car shows?

I'd be happy just being invovled in the Fairmont' build-up.

Not sure what year is is, but I dont think they made that bodystyle after 81. Even before it got the axe, it wasn't produced near as much as the other bodystyles.

I've had my Zephyr, which is the same bodystyle, for around 5 years and I've only seen three others like it, two Fairmonts and one Zephyr. One Mont was in a JY, the Zephyr I spotted in a parking lot made the one in the JY look like a gem, and the other Mont had out of state tags so I guess he was just passing through.

They're a PITA to find interior stuff for.
