Default CANADIAN CAPRI OWNERS PLEASE RESPOND!

For you Canadian Capri guys...please post the year of your car and your DSO # please!

If you have a Canadian Capri in the US or are a Canadian with ANY Capri (US or Canadian DSO), please respond! Thanks!

Trying to get a feel for how many ORIGINAL Canadian Capris there might be!

    How rare are they?

I wouldn't think that they would be that rare.

I guess, the export #'s would of been less over the years.Only, because Mercury's production numbers were also in decline.

Off topic but, ever notice the # of parts on these cars. Stamped MADE IN CANADA on them..

On your door tag, where it says "DSO".

It stands for District Sales Order. If you have a "true" Canadian car, it should be A7 I believe.

I found this description of Canadian DSO's:

    A Prefix Lincoln Mercury Group
    B Prefix Ford Lincoln-Mercury Group
    1 Central Canada Provinces
    2 Eastern Canada Provinces
    3 Atlantic Canada Provinces
    4 Midwestern Canada Provinces
    6 Western Canada Provinces
    7 Pacific Canada Provinces
    8 Burlington
    11- Ford of Canada

    On here: http://www.blueovalnews.com/store/bo...tag%20page.pdf

It's an "early" list, I'll try to look up some more recent documentation at home to see if DSO's evolved through the years.

My Capri was delivered on the west coast, so it should have DSO A7 (It's in storage now, so I can't check).

As for Capris being rare, there are a few Capri's in our Mustang club.

DaveW, Yes, I found out about the different regions a while ago. A7 was not the only Canadian DSO (sorry for my Canadian ignorance, I have not really looked at Canadian cars too much).

If you could ask the people who have Capris in your club, what their car's DSO is, that's what I'm interested in.

The DSO is very important in determining what cars originally were to be shipped to Canada and to get a feel for what is up North of the border.

I also need to know if it is an original RS or GS or "5.0L", etc.

Remember, when the 86 Capri production numbers was updated and
the number of RS's was changed from 3,303 to 3,840

I remember it being brought up that the additional 537 RS cars
were Canada bound and not counted on the original list.

I will have to see if i can find this thread for referance.

    Default DSO's

I'll check both of mine and get back to you. One sold in Sask., one in Calgary AB. On those production figures, ran into this many years ago while involved in the mopar hobby (!) There was a lot of rumblings about "export" orders not being counted in DOMESTIC production totals, which were accepted as gospel back in the mid 80's. This accounted for a lot of supposedly unproduced cars that kept popping up in Canada, France, etc. To this day, I will still see the total of 70 hemicudas' made at 652; that was for US delivery. If memory serves correct, once the export orders were filled in that # came up to 803. Wonder if the same thing happened over at Lincoln/Mercury?
    79 Capri RS I/I 2.3 turbo/T-5 (1 of none built!) SOLD
    82 Capri RS 5.0/4 spd/T-bar (black/black) SOLD
    86 Capri RS 5.0/T-5 (white/grey) SOLD
    84 Capri 5.0/T-5 T-bar (desert tan/caramel)
    86 Mustang GT 5.0/T-5 T-bar (black/red) SOLD
    70 Buick GS 455 stage 1/auto
    59 Buick LeSabre 364/auto

    This isn't a hobby, it's a disease...

One more 86 RS here. Got mine from a guy in Mississauga, ON. I still have the dealership lamacoid on the tailgate!!
Mike, won't be able to get the DSO until I return home next week. I'll post it then. I wonder can we tackle the "RS Embedded" moldings found on Canadian 85-86's while we're at it...

not nessecarily. Now I could be wrong (it happens) but I think just RS models in 85-86 that were built IN Canada FOR Canada is what I've been told. Problem is, I'm not sure where they could have been built. I mean, my 86 was built for canada (speedo in Kms, etc) but does not have any type of RS denoting like a dash stamp, sticker, badge, molding, etc except that of the RS on the rad buck tag and my insurance company ran the VIN and it comes up as an RS (plus the sport seats, front spoiler....). This topic was brought up in an earlier thread on this board about 1-2 years ago but nothing concrete as to an answer. I'd love to know what the deal is with this. FORD did make so many of these cars with the moldings but we still have no numbers.

That's pretty easy to figure out, since the VIN contains an assembly plant code. (2nd place '65-'80, 11th place '81+) I'm not aware of any Mustang assembly plant in Canada, past, present, or future.

These were/are the only four that I'm aware of:

    Dearborn, MI (3/9/64 - 5/10/04, VIN code F)
    Flat Rock, MI (9/28/04 - ?/?/?, VIN code 5)
    Metuchen, NJ (2/1/65 - 12/31/70, VIN code T)
    San Jose, CA (7/13/64 - 6/30/70 and ?/?/? - ?/?/81, VIN code R)
    Axle Tag Decoder
    Buck Tag Decoder
    Door Tag Decoder
    Owner Card Decoder
    Transmission Tag Decoder
    VIN Decoder

    FEP Registries: Black Magic & Crimson Cat / Cobra / Dominator / G.T.350 / LTD LX/Police & Marquis LTS / M81 / Pace Car / Predator / Saleen / Turbo GT & Turbo RS / Twister II

Wanted (Dead or Alive): VINs, door tags, buck tags, build sheets, window stickers, owner cards, transmission tags, axle tags

I used to have an '81 Black Magic but sent it to the scrap yard in '99. It had seen better days. Still have the VIN somewhere though.
