    Default metallic blue on dash?

i recently pulled the dash out of my 81, and much to my surprise i was met with the most beautiful dark blue metallic paint. i say surprise, because the outside of the car is a harlequin of blues that don't match each other. the tag on the door jamb is gone, so i have no idea as to the factory shade, but i would like to find out.

81 what? Mustang or Capri? LX or GT? RS or GS?

A tad bit of info and we might be able to narrow it down!

Look on the body tag that may still be screwed to your radiator support. That will have the color code too.

It the Body Tag still attached to the radiator core suport, behind the right (driver) side headlamp bucket? The interior color code is on that tag.

This is what it looks like:

    my apologies. 1981 mustang LX.

Just an FYI: there was no LX model/trim level in '81. There was a base model, Ghia model, and a Cobra "package" (not a model). The LX model started in '84.

There was no 1981 LX I think....

Allright....from the 1981 Ford Product Fact Book:

81 Mustangs (2 door and 3 door and ghia) could get the following Blues:
    3J Bright Blue
3F Light Medium Blue (probably not it)
3H Medium Blue Glow (extra cost)

I do not see 3L Midnight Blue listed in the Fact Books but I see it in the decoding guide and the Fox Body Recognition Guide.

Best thing is to take the car (if you can) to the body shop and have them laser analyze the color. Then see what it spits out.
