Anyone know about silver for wheels? Is there a specific mix or just the generic wheel silver that I find everywhere? For 10 holes, turbines, ponies, trispokes, etc.

I guess it depends on the level of scrutiny. imo, the FB 109 Dark Charcoal parts I painted were easy to notice against my NOS collection.

Saleenjunky's Marhyde painted parts were quite difficult to tell from stock. Can't wait to hear how you make out.

No luck so far, no deep gloss

I did run across something interesting though
    It's called Nyalic
It's seems to be neither flat nor glossy
    It seems to be nothing

I tried it on some pieces and left them outside, just to see if it gives any protection at all
If it works, it would be great for protecting metal but leaving it factory looking
I mean, let's say you wanted to keep your wiper motor from oxidizing, but you didn't want to paint or shiny coat it

I may buff a piece of aluminum and spray that
I'm thinking Upper Intake Plenum, pre-'91 vs. post-'91
    And see what happens

I'll see if they have it here in town, and if it is less I will let you know..

    Default EFI Upper

I just "heard" that Eastwood Co's Spray Gray is a good match for the pre-clearcoat EFI uppers
    I have not seen pics

Unless someone's tried it before and says it's N/G, I don't mind getting a can and testing it out

Anyone try EC's Spray Gray for restoring an upper?

I stick by Metro Mustang (I think they are MetroMuscleCars now). They have the closest match of anyone for the interior.

Or you cna try going to a local auto paint supplyer and get it custome matched and mixed.

Sorry for digging this seemingly dead thread back up, but I'm wondering if a general consensus was ever reached on which paint was the best. Unless I can't read, there seemed to be disagreement on which can looked better. I want to paint the trim around my convertible top because it looks like garbage, so...what should I use? What will stand up best to the beating Florida sun we have down here? And what exactly do i have to do before painting the trim? Sand the old stuff off, use a primer, or just paint over it?

After buying 6 different cans of Sand Beige from as many vendors for my 1985 ascMcLaren, I found Metro Paints and an exact match for interior plastic parts. This was a couple of years ago when I wanted to touch up a scratch on a plastic piece. They seem to have a pretty extensive list of paints by year for interiors. Make sure what you need; sand beige or desert tan, etc...

    Bringing an old thread back.

For an 85 car with charcoal interior is everything the same color? The dash pad and arm rest look a slightly different color to me, but it may just be the material and texture. Vinyl vs. plastic.

    Thanks

Yeah, they discolor differently as they age.

Just do it all the same color.

Okay. Thanks Mike. Sounds like if I redo the dash and armrest I might as well plan on the whole interior!!!

The only thing I would not do are the door panels (unless they are really in tough shape). The door panels are NOT a solid color. They are grey, light grey, dark grey in spots.

Thanks for the heads up. My car is in pretty good shape so I may just do the dash pad, dash, center console and arm rest.

I didn't have enough for a very good test. I need to locate a new can I think.

Sucks that it's so hard to find.

In keeping with the rattle can theme of this thread, has anyone checked out the April 2009 issue of Muscle car review? There is an EXCELENT article of silver rattle can sprays. I bought the mag just for that article, though it turned out to be a very good read as whole . If I were more computer savy I would scan and upload the silver aritcle, however I think I have a problem in my computer in that my scanner won't talk my with computer.

That b.s. aside, a farly well respected resto shop did a comparo test on several silvers and the article is very well written and has codes, applications, pictures, all in all very good and I think would make a great addition to this thread. If someone would be so inclined to include it that would be very good of them.

Its not just "silver" but aluminum, carb silver, etc. Very good! I will try to get some more info on this thread a bit later
