Would you have any info on that?

If anyone runs across any other colors/cross-ref/years, whatever, I'd like to include them there
The stuff I'm talking about is for 85-86 only. It may also be used on Cougars and Tbirds too that had grey (not black) trim.

All other years (79-84) get a Satin (semigloss) black. I would think nearly any Satin black would work OK.

    Mike,

So any satin black should be correct for my trim and bumper/door mouldings?

Can I fix holes in the rubber or do they have to be completely replaced? Someone used several screws to reattach one of the mouldings.

I should think that any Satin black will get you right where you want to be. SEM makes good stuff and Marhyde also has a satin trim black. Unlike grey, black is either black or it isn't. I know there are "shades" of black but nothing like trying to match this grey.

As to holes, I would get some replacements. They are not that hard to find for 79-84 (I threw away a set as I couldn't give them away). If you do need to repair yours, SEM makes some flexible bumper cover repair stuff that I bet would work fine.

    If you go with SEM...

You can go to their website:

    www.sem.ws

They have a "where" to buy page. Check the reps in your area. I found a good one nearby that sells direct to consumers.

    http://www.sem.ws/toolbox/catalog/pr...ages/205_a.jpg

I am going to guess that 39143 "Trim Black" is probably what you want. If you go to home depot, you can get a lacquer Satin Black in a spray can.

I also use Eastwoods "Underhood" black for various jobs. It has a nice satin finish.

I have also used EastwoodCo's Underhood (and other EastwoodCo paints) for years
    It is a great finish
I have used it on trim, but not on Four-Eyes
If that matches at all I'd recommend it
Really, I won't even paint lawn furniture unless EastwoodCo has the color I want

Didn't see it posted here so..... Is a clear coat required over the exterior grey/charcoal trim? I've used the the Marhyde paint on a few pcs. and after a few weeks I have what looks like water spots that will not come out. Any advice?

I don't know, but I'd think the clear would make it too shiny
I think they are supposed to be pretty flat
I haven't run into spotting with the Duplicolor
But I only did a few small pieces so far
It hasn't been out in the rain since then
Hey wait...are they water spots? Or do you mean the paint just kinda got spotty on it's own?

The duplicolor rattle can clear you can get won't be ultra shiny.

On a side note, I have been looking for a super gloss clear rattle can and cannot find one. I have 3 brands of clear at home...and all are "lustrous" but not that nice gloss shine. I would call them semigloss.

    More like a satin finish?
You're looking for a deep gloss
What kinds are "off the list" so far?

Duplicolor and SEM. Needs to play nice with lacquer.

    Right
    I'll keep my eyes peeled

For sure I'd call the Dup satin, so I'm pretty sure I've got a handle on what you're looking for

Yeah, it doesn't "say" satin...it says a "lustrous" shine.

Anything with a deep shine seems to want to be enamel.

It looks water spotted. The trim looked great for a few weeks then started spotting. I've been holding off painting the rest of the trim until I get it figured out. I may just try the SEM stuff and see how that works.

If the SEM works out for you (it does seem to cover really great)....would you want to send me the rest of the can of Charcoal Grey Marhyde if your not going to use it? I'll pay shipping.

I want to do a writeup on the different charcoal paints and have them all except the Marhyde which I cannot source for less than $17 a can shipped....which I hate to pay if its not closer than the SEM which I can get easily.

    Yes, I have received it!

I plan on trying it this weekend weather permitting.

I now have a bit of ALL the charcoal grey colors I think are worth trying and will paint a piece of trim with all the colors and compare it to NOS and the PPG paint that is on my car.

I have SEM Medium Smoke, Dark Smoke, Marhyde, Duplicolor and maybe one orther I can't remember.

Mike, curious to see how you make out. Those photos SaleenJunky sent me seem to indicate that the Marhyde was very close to the NOS color. I think I forwarded those photos to you a while ago.

imo, I didn't think the duplicolor was really close to my NOS pieces.

    take lots of photos!

All are close. IMHO, SEM Charcoal was the closest of all I think.
