Default Discovered 79 capri taillight anomoly...

I just discovered that the 79 capri taillight seems to exist in two varieties...one with a solid fin on the very top and very bottom with the reverse light fins "broken" and a second variety...this second one has BOTH top and bottom fins broken making the reverse light look like it can be separated from the rest of the light assembly...

Anyway, has anyone noticed this or seen this before? bizarre.

I'll try to do that but its dark and I just put the things away...but here is what it looks like if I can use DOS text:

    My car has these:

    _______________________
    ____________ _____ _____
    ____________ _____ _____
    ____________ _____ _____
    ____________ _____ _____
    _______________________

The new one I picked up:
    ____________ _____ _____
    ____________ _____ _____
    ____________ _____ _____
    ____________ _____ _____
    ____________ _____ _____
    ____________ _____ _____

and if you look at the light from the top, the plastic goes like this:

    ____________/--------\____

SO it looks factory...I'lll try to get a picture online in a day or two...

You nailed it. My 79 RS has the clear back-up lens "full length" and the black bars are broken. My son's 82 RS is the opposite, however, his 79 Ghia is the same as my 79 RS. I can't post pictures yet either, but there should be a camera in the family before long.

Yeah, I pulled my "broken" one off of a minty "not nice enough to be yellow, not nice enough to be orange" 1979 capri. I mean the interior matched the exterior - AHHHH, the 1970's!!!

Anyway, my problem is that, including the 2 on my car, I now have 3 non-broken tailights and one broken taillight. I would not have pulled it had I of known this...so perhaps I can now find a passenger broken one in mint shape and then I can swap when the need arises...
