    Default recall on 86 5.0's

just to let you all know,
stopped in at my freindly ford dealer the other day and asked about
a recall on my 86 gt i had heard about,,yep there is an ongoing recall
for the catayletic converters, they were kinda skeptical so they told me they would research it,,
they called me yesterday ,no problem they already ordered the parts,,
they wont even inspect the cats, just a straight replacement ,a brand new h-pipe with cats, the guy there said that through ford that is a $1500 part.
i said...ssswwweeettt!!! the stang has an appointment next week.
so anybody with an 86 5.0 with original cats still on can get a brand new system free. just wanted to let you all know

The previous owner of this '86 told me about it when I bought it
He had an off-road in it already, so he didn't do it
He said if I wanted the cats to take it in
Later we were supposed to have visual inspections, so I took it in to a dealer
Turns out they'll only replace original equipment

    No free cats for me

that is nuts, 19 years later?

302HO, do you have the recall #? I wouldn't mind scoring a brand new set of cats. I have my friends 91 Convert's cats with 247 miles on them I was saving for a rainy day, but would like to save them.

It's an old recall, but you still have to have the original cats on your car. They did my fathers 88 in 89 and my 86 had new cat pipe when I bought it.

302HO, let us know how you make out, and if it's a no charge install. Also curious that ford even has 86-93 cat's around anymore? I hope they didn't do the same thing they have been doing with service parts, and that's outsource it to some 3rd rate manufacturer.

Curious if the replacement looks identical to the original as well and are old stock parts.

Hopefully the replacement is a high flow 3 way catalyst setup.....

Once you have the replacement; please post not only any part number's you may find stamped but the carb exemption order number that should be stamped into the outter shell of the cat.....

Reason being that i might be able to look up the carb exemtion order number & tell you whom applied & therefore manufactured the pipe for Ford...

Looks like I can get one for my '88. I know there is an open recall for the ignition switch on my car too, but I've already replaced it with one from the j/y. I'll have to look into this.

Every 86+ car I have owned has had this done already. They will put a little sticker on the fan shroud that state's it was done.

If it's a recall the manufacture MUST keep the part's available untill all subject car's have been repaired, or are off of the road for good.

Heck we are still doing recall's on the VW fox heater core's form the late 70 and the early 80's.

    lol...no

It will already be in the main data base as being completed.. They go off of the vehilce's Vin#

BTW... Your jetta may have a new one for the seat heater's burning hole's in the seat bottom's. You may want to call the locall dealer and give them the vin# and see if it applies to your car. Unless you want your butt to catch on fire...

I plugged in my VIN and it told me there aren't any safety or emissions recalls available for my car. I guess that means my h-pipe has already been replaced?

I got a 92S46 Recall... which is the replacement of the 'seat belt toungue assembly - Plastic sleeve replacement'.

I've already replaced the seat belt buckles that had the trashed plastic.

Good thing is.. I think I kept them and tossed them in my fairmonts trunk! If not then it's a salvage yard run for a trashed set from an 85 and stick those in and get a new set!

i got a few "ignition switch replacement" recalls... but no catalytic converter stuff.

is it possible they dont post it on their website because they lose so much money on it?

Not sure... But no sane dealership would ever turn down a recall. That's money in their pocket. I would just call the dealership and give them the vin and look for any open recall's on your car. If their is they should be able to order the part's and have them their and ready for you to come down and get them completed.

If you do it will be in the center of the dash above the radio by the emergency flasher, ESP, or ASR button.

You may not even have them, I dont see much use for them in Cali,
