Default Cracked timing cover, use it or toss it?

We cracked the timing cover on my friends '83 Cougar trying to remove it. We are uncertain as to whether or not we should go ahead and use it or look for another. Since it has some type of crank trigger/sensor made into it I can't scavenge the one I have on another motor. It isn't cracked into a water passage or anything so I'm hoping it can still be used.

Depends on how bad the crack is. You wouldn't want oil being flung everywhere! If it's a unique cover, you could have it aluminum welded to fix the crack.

I'm sort of mistified as to wy an 83 Cougar 302 would have a crank trigger system on it, is the car highly modified? Or are you describing the timing pointer?

5.0resto has the timing covers with provision for crank trigger pickup, that is compatible with the mid 80's water pumps and dual sump oil pan.
