    Default Antenna Question?

I have a White 1980 Mustang Cobra (very low miles)I am now detailing, I bought this car new,did not order factory radio, (My selling Dealer installed a aftermarket AM/FM Cass, unit)with a stainless(non black ant.)What color is yours? Do Pace cars/ Cobras with blackout trim have a Black antenna? Nobody seems to know for sure. Also I have all the Ford Brochures from 1980 and as you know they never show antennas installed. Thanks!!

I think only cars with the "blackout treatment" had a black-colored antenna.

I've seen your Cobra before (last year sometime on the net.) Post it here! It's very nice. As for the antenna, I believe that it should be Black. I believe that the '80-'81 Cobras all had blacked out trim, including antennas.

Now im back to "not knowing what to do"??? This site is great, but 4 people say black is correct, and 4 people say chrome/stainless is right. When I go to the Mustang Club of America shows; and 15 people say black is what their car came (1979-1981 Cobras) with and 15 people say chrome is what their car came with new. Im just going to order a radio antenna delete plate? In Black? Thanks Gregg/Dayton

If you buy a 1979 Ford Fact book and that info may be in there. For the Capri stuff they have diagrams pointing all the differences out:

As in the link above though the antenna was not listed.

It would be really nice if somebody bought up the 79-86 Mustang Fact books, and scanned them in. Some days I'm almost tempted to get a few off from ebay but have enough literature now. The wife has started to whine about it.

Pretty sure my brother's pace car has a chrome antenna.

    I'll ask him tomorow.

Everybody that has stated that they have Chrome/Stainless Steel antenna's, have '79's. It's always been my understanding that the '79's were a different breed. Mine has (and was built with) the chrome door handles, chrome plastic headlight surround trim pieces, stainless steel antenna, and non painted aluminum trim piece that ran up each windshield post and along the rooof. Everything else was Black.

Every picture that I have seen of the '80-'81 Cobras (as well as '82-up GT's) have Blacked out trim on every aspect, including the antenna's. Unfortunately, I don't have any factory pic's of the '80-up Cobras or GT's to post.

I know it is a little late, but I believe the 80-81 cobra had black out trim including the antenna. My 79 cobra that I had didn't, but that is a different snake.
