got these from another site i'm on:

    Weight Saver:
    Bumper supports:40 lbs
    Rear seat:15 lbs
Seat belts:15 lbs (delta of 5-way harness)
    Lightweight wheels/tires:40-60 lbs
    Aluminum driveshaft:5 lbs
    Aluminum flywheel:15 lbs
    A/C system:50 lbs
    Emissions components:15 lbs
    Sound Deadening:90 lbs
    Rear axle vibration damper:5 lbs
    power lock servos:2 lbs
    Lightweight brakes:30 lbs
    Aluminum control arms:10 lbs
    Race seats:40-60 lbs
    Tubular K-member:20-40 lbs
    Power steering:17 lbs
    Manual brakes: 10 lbs
    Extra wiring/dash:20-30 lbs
    Mini starter(91 up):5 lbs
    Aluminum radiator:5 lbs
    Aluminum heads:40 lbs
Racing tranny(C4/Jerico compared to AOD):20 lbs
    Carpet:5 lbs
    Fiberglass hood:10-15 lbs
    Ti bellhousing:20 lbs
    Lexan windows:50-100 lbs
    Carbon Valve covers: Ounces

And "Free Speed" as it was called:

    1. Timing: Bump your timing to about 14 degrees initial. Hook your vacuum advance to manifold vacuum and then the Duraspark Recurve set your Total advance.
    2. Short Belt: short belt on and/or reverse your belt tensioner to free up some power.
    3. Ram Air: Use the stock 84-85 GT Air cleaner to run some dryer hose to the front of the car to get some forced air.
    4. Choke Horne Removal: Cut the choke horn off your Holley carb. This will gain you a few CFM and clean up the air flow into the carb. If nothing else remove the choke butterfly and linkage.
    5. Spare Tires: Turbo Coupes had pretty good looking aluminum spare tires. You can mount some street tires on them and have some cheap skinnies out front.

and i pretty much agree with them, i have done a few and worked a bit.

I agree with most of the above post but I have to question the weight of the carpet. 5 pounds I know Jim is going by the article but seriously who has had their carpet out of their car and thinks it weighs only 5 pounds. I am guessing 20 pounds since I recently pulled mine to install subs.

For the vacuum secondary crowd I suggest a quick change spring kit and springs. Getting the back pair of venturi opening quicker helps a lot. Also for the duraspark crowd resetting the advance curve is a road worth travelling too. I have done both and dropped ET and gained MPH (suffered on 60ft times)

Although I have not gone the short belt route I have gone the under drive pullies. Picked up no more than 2 tenths and less than 2 mph but for the less than 60 dollar investment (3 pulley set and new belt) it was worth it. Actually I needed a new belt anyway so should I even factor that cost?

More input later. Interesting thread Kevin....good luck this weekend. Capri

typical cheap junkyard mods, you can go real fast

-explorer engine with gt40 or gt40p heads, and gt40 knock off intake, $700 complete

-turbocoupe 3.73 rear end with discs, $120

-mark vii fan (haven't done that yet)

rebuilding t5's on your own, instead of buying new.

if you guys are on a budget, get creative. 50 proof and I bought him a 3.73 turbocoupe rear end from the junkyard, ditched the disc brake stuff, and shoved in aerostar axles with 5 lug drums, paid $80 for the whole rear end. Now we've got a set of 5 lug axles and drums to sell to make up for the cost of the entire rear end.

see a part in the junkyard?? Pick it up, sell it to someone else, have that pay for your performance parts. This is the only was i've been able to fix up my car, cheap or free.

    Home ported E7's.

Be patient and wait for deals on used part's.

I got 24s, performer intake, moroso cold air kit, stock maf, 70mm Tbody for 300 buck's.

    NEW 8.8 50 buck's, free 3.55 gear's.

Fresh DSS 306 shortblock, ported E7's, frsh T-5 with a king cobra clutch for 700 buck's.

It take's me forever to find parts and complete project's but I have been able to put them together for a 1/3 of the price that I should have in the car.

Have some other tricks in the sleeve that I will reveal later... (if it runs better!)

forget reveal letter tell thsoe tricks now, I might find something I can use on suday to improve my times. this is a sharing board gosh darn it. By the way if you need to take yur belt off the car and leave it inthe back floor board and re-install it on the return road. That might help a bit.

Actually, next year I will have something....

But, remember the intake on a FI car ~somewhat~ reacts different than a carb car.

Upper intake gets iced, lower intake does not.

Carb car - Upper intake = Air Cleaner....

I tried icing my intake but it was not the easiest thing to do. I mean most of the intak eis covered with the carb and so you can not ice it down evenly. I would rather not ice it and have all the runners as close to the same temp as possible. I run 38* total timming.
