Strange Problem

Hello,

I have a strange problem. When I grab the steering wheel and move it up and down, (locked in place, not tilting it up and down) it causes some sort of electrical problem. THe car dies if running, the guages quit working, the windows and windshield wipers don't work. THis also happens sometimes when I turn the steering wheel while driving. THe car will die and everything stops working. Got to be a short somewhere. Any ideas where I should start?

ignition switch,its in the steering column. Needs to be replace,its fairly cheap.
