I think your car is a mutant , I thought all stangs/capri VIN #'s Started with 1FAB Not 1MEB? Except ASC's? Anyways this is what I'm getting...

I don't have Mercury decoding tables handy, or I would have already done this. I don't know what body code 67 means.

Here is a list of codes. The 67 Capri body style code is listed there along with code 79.
Somebody else had a similar vin in another thread.

does the vin tell you what the car is rs/bm????or just a plain old car??
What? I don't understand that question. What is rs/bm?
It does not tell you if it is an RS or Base Model.Originally Posted by ex91

Being a 6cylinder...it isn't an RS.

The VIN does not give you information as to whether a car is an RS or a Black Magic and such. The buck tag or body tag, generally found stapled or screwed to the radiator support is what you need to help do that.
Actually, 79-82 the RS designation was not automatically linked to a motor style, it was a suspension and trim level option. I have seen a 79 RS with n/a 4 cylinder and a few I6 RSes. They were the real deal.
Heh, cool.
I knew Black Magics were available in all motor types. Never saw an RS like that.
I was reading a 1979 Mercury Dealer's product manual I just got (need to scan it in, its pretty cool) and thought that it said the 5.0 or turbo was only available in the RS.

Cool, it was mostly a trim option early on.
That 79 salesmans book I got only tied the 4cyl Turbo to the RS. It looks like things changed in 83 and the RS got tied to engine choices.
