    Default turn signal switch

i am replacing my turn signal switch and noticed that the stalk is round while most others i see for the 84 model year are square. any ideas on why this is? the switch is original to the car, date coded 3L23.

Sounds like the ones that had horns there instead of on the steering wheel...

its not marked for the horn though. ive seen those and they have a horn symbol and an arrow on the end. i'll take a picture of it.

the 87 and up cars just had one big stalk on the side because there were the buttons around the cluster, so its not from a later car.the switch is original so i don't think someone replaced just the stalk.

It almost looks like a Ford service replacement part. I ordered a replacement wiper switch/arm and got something similar looking to that. I returned it because it didn't look original.

Is there something like an "E#-###-####" part number on it?

there is no part number on it and no identifying markings.the switch was original though, would that cause you to believe the stalk is original too?
i had to replace the switch because it no longer locked into position for the directionals.have you ever seen a car with this stalk?

I have never seen that stalk before. Just for giggles, try to find pictures of escorts or Lynxs (or rangers) of that time frame. Their switches/levers were setup very similar but with just a bit of a styling change.

well i found the answer. i checked the escort/lynx and those are square too. then i recalled that the previous owner had an 87 Cougar and sure enough thats where it came from. i dont get why he would do that??? well at least i have a correct one to put on.
